Meet the Teacher!
Mrs. Meghan Melton
Kaitlyn Bouse, 7th grade Journalism and Ashlyn Katzer, 7th grade Journalism
Mrs. Meghan Melton,6th grade ELA and History teacher, has two degrees, a Bachelor in Business and one in Science Education. This is her first time teaching middle school but she chose Paola Middle School because she wanted to start a new adventure.
Outside of school she has 4 kids and she loves sports and going to the lake. Melton said her favorite sport is basketball because she loves it and all her kids love it too. Her favorite subject outside of ELA and History is science because she loves to do fun experiments. Melton stated that she loves Paola Middle School and all the positivity. Melton said she was inspired by her 6th grade teacher but officially was when she was 18 years old. Her favorite animal is a giraffe because they are majestic, kind, gentle, and because they are giant. We are excited you are part of the Panther Family Mrs. Melton.
Meet the Teacher!
Ms. Liz Hernadez
Addison Boehm, 8th grade Journalism and Stella Kauk, 7th grade Journalism
Ms. Liz Hernadez, chior director, is a new teacher that joined our Pather family this school year. This is her first year teaching. She has done many things for our school already like help with the choir concerts, and she is educating and training the students here in the skills required to succeed in a musical career if they choose to do so. She demonstrates and explains pitch, tempo, rhythm, and so many other factors that are required for singing. Ms. Hernandez is well organized and knows how to stay productive. We are so excited to see the amazing things she will accomplish while working at Paola Middle School.

Veterans Honored at Paola Middle School
Paola Middle School hosted its 20th annual Veterans Day assembly on November 11 for local veterans, middle school students and staff. Prior to the assembly, eighth grade students wrote heartfelt letters of appreciation to veterans, and those letters were either mailed to veterans, handed to veterans who attended the assembly, or given to the Paola Applebee's restaurant to distribute to veterans who were dining there on Veterans Day. The virtual guest speaker was 2019 Paola graduate Allison Walania, who is serving in the Air National Guard. Several middle school students participated in the Veterans Day assembly. Clifford Sparks and Nicholas Nelson spoke about flag etiquette and demonstrated the proper way to fold the American flag and store it. Avarie Needham, Lola Canales and Finley Kural performed a flag routine, and Kylie Behrendt was the Patriot's Pen essay contest winner from Paola Middle School, a contest that is sponsored by the Paola VFW. She read her essay titled, "How Can I Be a Good American?" Maxx Young operated the slideshow for the Veterans Day program. Katelyn and Kylie Corbin handed out veteran letters as the veterans were leaving the auditorium. Several middle school staff members also participated. Mrs. Snouffer choreographed the flag routine. Mr. Doolittle played "Taps" on his bugle. Mr. Prothe assisted with the technology. Mrs. Walters and Joey Reif helped tie ribbons on the veteran letters. Mrs. Silver served refreshments to the veterans. A big thank you to the students and staff who made this a Veterans Day to remember.

STEM News!
In 6th grade STREAM, we just finished up our Crime Scene Unit where we used evidence we collected throughout our explorations to solve a crime. We are now onto rocketry where we have constructed straw rockets and are now experimenting with thrust and trajectory to hit a specific target.
In 7th grade STEM, we recently finished our work with wind turbines. Here you see students testing their turbines for voltage & resistance or trying to power an LED light or a string of lights with the wind turbines. The 7th graders are now onto building bridges out of balsa wood and testing for efficiency.
In 8th grade STEM, we completed our robot unit where we designed and built robots to complete a rescue mission. Now we are onto creating roller coasters and examining the physics behind it all.
