Public Library Connection by Anne Crawford
I had the pleasure of performing Outreach at the Book Fair at Palencia Elementary this past Thursday at Shannon's invitation and it was there that I brought here three crates worth of weeded SSYRAs for the Teacher Kits. I also issued library cards and while many folks I spoke to already had library cards (which isn't bad news!), I was able to issue some new library cards, and that's especially meaningful for when it's first-time cards for children. Below are some fun pictures I took - that wonderfully big and very popular "Rainbow Dash" (of My Little Pony fame) came from our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for our Children's Department and my upcoming My Little Pony Club and was a big hit with the kids both at the Book Fair and at my own library branch. Additionally, I snagged a photo with a favorite children's book character and adventurer, Geronimo Stilton! It was a fun evening all the way around, and so nice to run into storytime patrons now "big kids" at the Elementary School.
We love working with our local schools and Media Specialists as we have so many of the same goals - the biggest of which is developing enthusiastic, life-long readers. Thank you to Shannon for helping give some of our best books a second start to further help children become avid and diverse readers.
And the Winners are..........

Birthday Book Club
The Palencia Elementary School Media Center’s Birthday Book Club is a wonderful way to commemorate your child’s birthday. Your participation not only enriches the library collection but allows you and your child to be personally involved in its growth.
To take part in the Birthday Book Club donate one new undamaged hardback book. This book should be a book that your child enjoys and one that we don’t have in the media center already. You can choose a new book at the book store or a new book from the Book Fair. A quick check of our library catalog (Destiny) will tell you if we already have the book. If you would prefer, you may make a monetary donation of $15 and your child can choose from recently acquired books that are waiting to be put on the shelves. For more information, contact the media center.
