In-Person Learning For Parents Who Signed Up

The time is approaching for students to return to school for in-person learning! If you signed your child up for in-person learning back in December, then your child is currently on our list to attend school on February 22nd, 2021 under the district's new 3/2 Model.

What is the 3/2 Model for in-person learning? Students selected to come back in-person are placed in one of two cohorts: Cohort A or Cohort B (please click for a calendar for each). Each cohort will attend school either three days per week or two days per week depending on which cohort they are in. Calendars have been provided to help parents keep track of which days their children are to be at school.

Remember that students may only come to school on the days in which their cohort is assigned to attend. If you signed your child up for in-person learning in December, then your child's homeroom teacher will be in contact with you no later than 2/15 to notify you of which cohort your child has been placed in and to review with you which days your child comes to school.

If you did not opt for your child to return to the school building, then nothing changes. Your child will still receive instruction virtually from his or her regular teachers.

We are excited for the opportunity to educate your children in-person again this school year and we look forward to a great end to the school year!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give us a call at the school at 912-395-5235.

Productive Struggle for Teens - How You Can Help

Whether your child is learning virtually or in-person, please continue to encourage your child to be engaged in 'productive struggle' at school.

Productive struggle happens when students have a growth mindset (please click the image to the right). This occurs when the students are engaged in work that isn't too easy or too overwhelming. The work we do at Hubert aims to hit that "sweet spot."

Productive struggle is crucial for students to become independent learners. Rather than immediately jumping in to help, teachers will give room for students to problem-solve and struggle independently before offering assistance.

That may sound counter-intuitive, since many of us assume that helping students learn means protecting them from negative feelings of frustration. But for students to become independent learners, they must have practice persisting in the face of challenges.

Parents: We need your help!

Parents, please encourage your child to wake up early and be on time! Instruction begins promptly at 7:30AM. The school schedule provides students with multiple brain breaks and a lunch break. The instructional day ends at 1:40. Teachers have tutorials scheduled between 1:40 and 3:00. Teachers must mark students absent if they are not logged in or doing classwork.

Thank you for your understanding!
