Six Ways to Add Rigor by Deeper Thinking
Quote from Article:
Cognitive rigor is created by the interaction of three key factors: content complexity + cognitive engagement + the intended scope and depth of the learning activity.
Association of Middle Level Of Educators
Quote from Article:The research is clear. As Jane McGonigal points out in Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World, when they’re interested in something, kids demonstrate a powerful ability to maintain focus on even the most challenging tasks. Statistics show that students who play video games fail 80% of the time but persist and try again and again. Why? Because they do not perceive failing as the end of the game.

Eliminate Off-Task Behavior During Group Work
Quote from Article: When asked what frustrates teachers most about collaborative activities, given the options of ‘assessing collaboration,’ ‘time management,’ ‘creating groups,’ ‘team accountability,’ and ‘constant off-task behavior,’ off-task behavior nearly doubled the number of responses of all the other options. Managing students and their time is clearly a shared struggle. Students– people– are social beings. Assigning group work in school gives an opportunity for students to socialize, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but this can often lead to off-task behavior.
