BRINGING KINDNESS TO THE HALLWAYS
Fira Dorr, a 4th grader in Mrs. Deo's homeroom at Miller Hill-Sand Lake, became inspired by the work of Levee Chavez and his Subway Therapy Project from 2016 in New York City. Fira shared her inspiration with the entire school and collected messages from students to be displayed prominently on a bulletin board across from the cafeteria. Read more here.

EASTER BASKETS FOR THE HOMELESS
Rose Jokiel completed a fundraising mission to make Easter Baskets for one of the homeless shelters in Albany. Rose sold banana bread to students and teachers throughout the school recently and asked for donations at her church. She ended up raising more than $500 and created the baskets so she could deliver them before the Easter break.
LEARNING IN CONTINENTAL MATH
Six students in Mrs. Guyer's Third Grade class participated in Continental Math League throughout the year. CML is enrichment math with additional assignments and multi-step complicated word problems. They did well throughout the school year and earned their certificates! Two students in the class also received medals: Mackin Flannery (1st place) and Reid Gicewicz (2nd place).
STORY PIRATES PERFORM FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
The Story Pirates visited the auditorium at Algonquin Middle School to perform for 4th grade students across the district. Each elementary school was treated to their own show, thanks to our very generous PTAs. All students submitted a story to the Story Pirates and one student's story from each school was selected to be performed during the show. Read more here.
FIND THE KINDNESS EGG HUNT
All kindergarten classes at West Sand Lake Elementary had a "Find the Kindness" Easter Egg hunt with School Counselor, Mrs. Beauchamp. Inside each egg was not candy, but a "kindness job" they should try to complete before the bunny came.
PERFORMING DISSECTIONS
Students participate in a mammalian heart dissection in the Honors Biology class. During the dissection, students did a "full pluck", where the lungs of a pig are inflated so students can see how they envelope the heart -- a very cool adaptation for pulmonary circulation.
