Conflict

Types of Conflict:
***Internal Conflict***
Internal conflict takes place when you have to make a moral or ethical decision because you're facing a dilemma of some sort
- Takes place within yourself
- Is a struggle occurring within a character's mind
***External Conflict***
External conflict is a struggle between a person and an outside force.
- External conflict drives the dramatic action of the plot
- Deals with aspects outside of thyself
That's not all!
Not only are there types of conflict, there's types of the types of conflict!
- Man vs Self
- Man vs Man
- Man vs Nature
- Man vs Society
Types of Internal Conflict
Man vs Self: When a character must overcome himself/herself, or when you get into a fight with your conscience
Example:
- When a protagonist has an inner struggle within himself
Types of External Conflict
Man vs Nature: When someone overcomes a force of nature to meet his or her goal
- Types of Nature
- Storms
- Earthquakes
- Difficult Climates
- Tornadoes
- Hurricanes
- Floods
- Extreme Conditions
- Animals from Nature
***In this type of external conflict, nature can be defeated.***
Man vs Society: When society dictates the decisions characters make and brings conflict into situations
- Example: Man vs Society took place in the short story The Sniper. If society wouldn't of had a civil war, then the Republican Sniper wouldn't of killed his brother.
Man vs Man: When characters are going against each other
- Antagonist vs Protagonist
- Typically ends with one man standing
