PD Spotlight
Social Studies Leadership Conference w/ Laura Sturgess: We discussed writing portion of the SAT and discussed how to use close critical readings in class. We were shown about 4 websites that are great resources for practicing the SAT writing portion.
Elementary Math Leadership w/ Stephanie Owens: https://sites.google.com/a/cudahysd.org/csd-elementary-math/ : This is a great website for math talks in the classroom. This site also provides a great resource for parents to be able to help their child at home. Many parents get very frustrated in trying to help their child with math homework. This site provide videos for parents to watch so they are able to understand the math strategies we are teaching our students in the classroom.
Youcubed is another great FREE resource for teachers and parents. This site also helps parents understand why we are teaching math a "new" way from what they were taught as kids.Tech To Teach w/ Jennifer McKay: I planned and executed My ASL III students using a blog to post their assessments. They are using Wordpress to post their videos and share with their classmates their knowledge of the material in ASL III as another resource for their use. They will also be teaching a lesson and using their blog for formative assesment to see how much the others understood. (through comments on their blog)
It was VERY interesting to learn about various technology and collaborate with others to see the ideas that they had.
Life is Better When You Blend w/ Pam Kelbel:
Plicker - Quick way to get feedback on students understanding using Large QR cards and your phone with App
Next Generation Science Teaching w/ Katie Cooper: This focused primarily on teaching with models. Basically, you show the kids a natural phenomena and having them explain it. Each day you add more information to the phenomena so students can modify their explanations. After a week or so of modeling, discussion, and positive argumentation students are able to put together a concrete reason for the phenomena. With this type of teaching it's important to have a strong classroom culture that supports public reasoning. Students need to feel comfortable to discuss their reasoning and why they may disagree with some of their peers.
AP Calculus Workshop w/ Liz Endicott:
- Resources to use in my classroom from seasoned AP teacher. - More practice AP Exams - Information about the types of questions the AP exam is going to ask

At a future PLC, I will review with all teachers what can and can't go on their staff websites and provide support in making these changes. Yes. the standards will limit some of the "cool" techy things we can do, but we'll work together to find the best possible solution that is accessible to all people. The guidelines can be found HERE.
