Olympic National Park experiences mild falls, summers, and springs. Winters can be harsh due to floodling, snow, and ice.

Plants

  • Mosses, spike mosses, lichens and ferns are epiphytes. (plants that grow on other plants)
  • Most of the trees are 100 years old, 250 feet tall, and have a circumference of 30 to 60 feet. Some of the common trees Olympic National Park are sitka spruce, western hemlock, and black cottonwood.
  • Some common shrubs are salmonberry, and huckleberry
  • Nurse Logs are seedlings that germinate on fallen, decaying trees
  • Dead woods are fallen trees that take many years to decay, but throughout their death, they provide a habitat for other species.
