TCSC Goes to Phase 2
After additional review based out of an abundance of caution, the Tipton Community School Corporation School Board approved pushing back the start of school until Wednesday, August 12 at last night’s special board meeting. In addition, Phase 2 of the corporation’s reopening plan will be implemented including moving to our Hybrid Model for students in middle and high school (grades 6-12). Details involved in this option have been added to the end of our reopening plan which can be accessed along with other specifics below. This information can also be found on our website at www.tcsc.k12.in.us.
Our Hybrid Model divides students into two groups (blue team and white team) based on their last name. Half of the students receive in-person instruction on Monday and Wednesday; half do so on Tuesday and Thursday. All students will attend virtual classes every other day and on Fridays. At this time, our elementary school students will receive in-person instruction five days a week as scheduled with reduced class sizes for social distancing.
We will review circumstances later in August to determine whether we can move back to Phase 1 offering our least-restrictive model allowing all students in all grades to attend school every day or remain in Phase 2 starting September 8.
The adjustments that the new processes, protocols, and practices involved to allow for in-person classes to resume are not lost on us. We understand that we need to be flexible and know it will take time to shift and adapt. Nothing is really off the table at this point but right now the plan we have in place offers parents high quality, innovative face to face and virtual options with student and staff safety our top priority.
I can’t say enough about our team including the TEA, School Board, Tipton County Health Department, and IDOE for considering and helping to provide the latest scientific data and guidance along with the academic, social and emotional needs of students to enable us the opportunity to create an adaptable reopening plan that makes the most sense for our district at this moment in time and, as safely as possible
I know you know we are trying really hard under incredible obstacles and challenges to keep moving forward. The majority of our families want their children to return to the classroom. We are doing our best to make that happen while accommodating for the various scenarios and each family’s unique situation. Our goal is for our students to return to five-day face to face instruction as quickly as safety conditions allow.
We appreciate your patience and partnership in this journey. By every one of us following the recommended precautions to reduce the risk of exposure and transmission, we have the potential to significantly expedite our community’s and corporation’s return to normalcy. #TiptonPride #TiptonTogether
