Weaver Lake Family Newsletter
October 2022
Message from the Principal
Greetings Weaver Lake Wolfpack,
We're off to a howling good start! It's so great to see our students in the science lab, makerspace and engineering lab. We've been catching bees, walking to the lake, studying insects, and much more. We're very excited to share our STEM learning with you on November 17, for the STEM in Action Fair. More information will be coming about that event!
We had a great Color FUN RUN! So much energy and color! I am so appreciative of the PTO for raising money and holding an event that our students truly enjoy. It is a big reason our year is off to an enthusiastic start! The PTO is funding much of our STEM activities and field trips as well as a grade level week-long art residency. We are also partnering to fund a Star Lab that all of our students will use throughout the year!
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we are working out schedules and going back to "normal." Please note that students who are eating breakfast have been given a second badge to keep in their backpack. This is so they can go straight to breakfast and have their badge scanned. There is a charge for breakfast or a free/reduced rate if you have filled out the application. The free and reduced lunch application also provides the school with other benefits. You will want to make sure you are clear with your child if you want them to eat breakfast at school or not.
A shout out to all the volunteers that have made our start go much smoother. Having volunteers in the cafeteria for the first two weeks was incredibly helpful! Having volunteers in classrooms and here for the Fun Run is great. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities please contact Stephanie Clark, our volunteer coordinator. You can fill out the volunteer application here.
We have conferences coming up mid-October so make sure to continue to check your emails, texts and voicemails. Please reach out to your child's teacher, the office or me with any questions, comments, or compliments that you may have for us! We're here to work in partnership with you!
With Warm Regards,
Lena Christiansen, Principal

Parent Pick up / End of Day Reminders
Students will be dismissed for parent pick up at 3:55 p.m. Please pick up your child/children by the sidewalk in front of the school. Your child/children must be ready to enter the vehicle on the passenger side/curb side. Proceed as far as possible down the curb so other vehicles can pull up behind you. If you arrive early, please use designated parent pick up spaces on the south end of the lot. Please do not stop within the crosswalk. Please park in a designated parking spot and meet your child/children at the patrol crossing if you prefer.
Parking or lining up on the other side of the patrol/grassy area is not permitted as cars need to be able to drive through that area. All students are expected to cross with patrols when not being picked up along the curb.
Picture Day is Coming!
Breakfast & Lunch - SmartSchoolK12
As a reminder as in previous years, Kindergarteners eat breakfast for free. For 1st – 5th grade, please make sure your child knows if they should be heading to the cafeteria to get breakfast or not as they will be charged for it. All scholars will be using their barcodes on their school IDs to scan at lunch and breakfast. Scholars have a second badge they can keep in their backpack to be scanned for breakfast.

STEM Update from Jen Gaab
Now that all our spaces in Weaver Lake are in full use, teachers have taken the time to introduce the STEM safety rules to students. Each class has come to the science lab and been introduced to Mrs. Kanz, our STEM assistant, and Miss Gaab, one of the STEM coaches. They went over the safety rules and did an activity to think about their importance. Students also identified which rules would be easiest and most difficult for them to follow.
STEM Safety Rules 2022-23
I agree to…
*use STEM materials as instructed
*stay at my spot and participate as instructed
*handle animals with care and respect
*leave the space as I found it (or cleaner)
*follow directions as instructed
*not drink, taste, smell, or touch materials unless instructed
