2022 Graduation
Last Saturday, Chelsea Public Schools celebrated its Class of 2022! 312 students from Chelsea Opportunity Academy, Chelsea Virtual Learning Academy and Chelsea High School earned their diplomas. These amazing students were awarded over $5.2 million in scholarships and grants. Congratulations to all who graduated in what was an amazing afternoon!

Excellence Award Winners Visit CPS
Three of our CPS Excellence Award recipients spent time throughout the day on Friday visiting our students! This trio of individuals, who attended CPS schools and graduated from Chelsea High School, spoke about their Chelsea stories and answered questions from students. The day began for Leo Robinson and Joan Cromwell at the Early Learning Center where they met with the first grade. In the afternoon, Cesar Castro met with Chelsea Opportunity Academy students as well as eight grade students at the Clark Avenue Middle School to talk about his experiences as a former CPS student. Ms. Cromwell spent time at the Wright Middle School as well as the Sokolowski School too! What a great experience for our students to be inspired by these individuals.
Teacher Pathway Program End of Year Celebration
The district celebrated the success of our Teacher Pathway Program by throwing an end of year celebration in honor of the paraprofessionals who are now graduates with teacher licenses. Assistant HR Director Joanne Bell and Director Christine Lee passed out certificates to the graduates and all enjoyed a delicious buffet from Bella Isla and Salsa Dancing led by Hooks Parent Liaison Jhonny Giraldo.
One of the graduates ELC Teacher Martha Valentin spoke on her experience in the program and was also selected to speak at Salem University's commencement ceremony on May 21st. Martha, like many of those graduating from the TPP program was supported by Chelsea Public Schools in her dream to becoming a licensed teacher. Springboard Learning Accelerator Program
This week, first and second graders from the MCB Elementary Complex completed a ten-week Springboard Learning Accelerator program to grow as readers. Students attended after school instruction two days per week, and families implemented reading strategies at home. Families also attended weekly reading strategy workshops run by Springboard Teachers; Ms. Andrea, Ms. Rauh, Ms. Wakefield, Ms. Riad, Mrs. Campanella, Ms. Gallagher, and Mr. Flores, as well as Program Leaders Ms. Giangrasso and Mrs. Hubert. Summer Learning Workshop
ELC Coaches facilitated a Summer Learning Workshop where parents learned how to keep their children active with learning during summer. Supplies and resources were distributed to all families who participated.
Public Officials Speak with the Third Grade
Third Grade students at the Berkowitz Elementary School enjoyed a presentation and question-and-answer sessions with public officials in Chelsea this week. The event coincided with the students learning about the City of Chelsea, its history, and how Chelsea is Now. The individuals who spoke to the students were Superintendent Dr. Almi G. Abeyta, City Manager Tom Ambrosino, Chelsea School Committee member Roberto Jimenez Rivera, and City Councilor Judith Garcia.
FoodCorps Lessons
Sra. Vazquez's class explored the worm bin and talked about how they help create compost for our garden from food scraps.
Mrs. Santos', Mrs. Madden and Sr. Cardenas' classes reviewed concepts from the past year like identifying plant parts that we eat through a matching game.
Hollywood Award Ceremony
Ms. Johnson’s first graders celebrated the end of a very successful school year with a Hollywood Award Ceremony. All students received 3 awards for reading, math, and a superlative. They also were awarded their very own 1st place medal. Thank you to all of the families and staff members who attended our ceremony today. We appreciate you all and we were so happy to have you there to celebrate with us.
ZOO FIELD TRIP!
The Sokolowski First Graders go on their FIRST EVER FIELD TRIP to the ZOO!!! We saw sleeping lions, mighty hippos, a cute red panda, big gorillas and playful monkeys! AND the tallest giraffe in the zoo, Chad! :)
Celtics Spirit Day!
On Friday, June 10th Sokolowski Sharks celebrated CELTICS SPIRIT DAY! Wearing your Celtics attire or green, white and black. The Sokolowski Sharks are cheering the Celtics team on to the Championship!
Field Day
On Tuesday, June 14th Sokolowski School had our Super Fun Field Day. We had a lot of fun activities divided into 11 stations. Sharks also had some ice cream, followed by a school picture. Mr. Meyers went on the roof and took an aerial shot of the school. What an amazing day for Sokolowski Sharks! Field Day was truly a team effort. Thank You!
Cultural Night!
On Wednesday, June 15th Sokolowski School celebrated Cultural Night, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. School committee member Ms.Jeanette Velez was present along with Lil Phunk the official Junior Dance Team for the Boston Celtics and a Sokolowski student recited a poem in Portuguese. Families enjoyed great music, food, raffles, and piñatas.
Science Fair with AP CHS Students
On Wednesday, June 15 Sokolowski Sharks attended Science Fair run by Chelsea High's AP Science students, that presented their projects in the MCB library. This was great sharks were very excited!
Grade 8 students at Browne applied what they learned about Newton's 3 Laws of Motion in a novel way when they were challenged to demonstrate one or more of the laws. They were able to choose from a variety of materials in order to create their models, including toy cars, popsicle sticks, surfaces of varying textures, and more.
Coding Club
8th Grade Coders along with teacher Mr. LaBranche have had much success with their coding club. They created links to games they coded in javaScript. You can play each game simply by clicking on the link. When you play each game you can't help but notice and appreciate the investment of time and perseverance that each member invested to code the game. You can click on the links to try out their games!

Last weekend, we celebrated the class of 2022's graduation. While all families and staff gathered to celebrate our seniors, there was one being that couldn't make it but wanted to share his joy in celebrating our seniors. Coco, emotional support dog for Ms. Melchor, a school counselor at CHS, wanted to join in on the celebration and best wishes for our seniors. He's wearing his very own cap and "gown" that Ms. Doris Romano, our CHS Counseling Secretary, gifted him. Coco wishes the very best and will miss every single senior who has given him lots of pets and treats from the class of 2022.
Juneteenth Celebration in Chelsea
Chelsea Black Community is hosting a Juneteenth event in Chelsea on Monday, June 20th. The is free to all community members to honor and celebrate the freedom of African-Americans.
