Technical Difficulties with the online STAAR test

Parents/Guardians,

As you may have heard, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) experienced some technical difficulties with their online testing system today. Approximately 15,000 Conroe ISD students were scheduled to take the Grade 4 writing, Grade 7 writing, and English I End-of Course exams on Tuesday. Of those, just over 1,600 were registered to take the online version. We are still gathering data from our campuses on the scope of the impact of this service outage. What we do know at this point is that some students were able to complete the online assessments and some students were not.

Although this issue was outside of Conroe ISD’s control, we echo the sentiments shared by TEA and understand the frustration this has caused students, parents, teachers, and administrators. TEA continues to work with ETS, the testing vendor, to correct the issue. Starting in the 2021-2022 school year, TEA will be using a new vendor, Cambium Assessment.

Anonymous Alerts

Conroe ISD will continue implementation of the Anonymous Alerts – anti bullying app. Anonymous Alerts is a patented student anti-bullying app that helps combat bullying and other negative activity in schools by empowering students to come forward to help themselves and other students. Social and peer pressures are some of the hardest obstacles for students to overcome, now they can report bullying and safety issues quickly using Anonymous Alerts mobile app.

Students or parents in the school community can anonymously submit alerts about suspicious activity, safety threats, bullying, alcohol or drug use, harassment, family issues, school shooter, campus safety concerns, and self-harm issues to school administrators or counselors. The app is free from the Apple Store, Google Play store, and the Chrome store. Students will still have the option to call Kid Chat to report anything at 1-800-kid-chat.
