Math, Science, and Social Studies
*We had 25 students from both classes pass their final accuracy check over all facts on Friday!! Great Job! Students who are still working on this goal will continue to work on all facts in class and take an accuracy check this Friday over all facts. I will be sending a note home with students who still have single fact families to master this week.
Science-
We had a great week working on our "Wiggling Worms" unit. Students were able to observe and study earthworms. Students completed a worm journal and did trials to find out if earthworms prefer damp or dry places. We were able to answer many "worm wonderings" and will continue to answer our own questions about earthworms this week.
Reading, Writing, Vocab and Word Study
Reading--We had our Book Tasting of historical fiction last week. This week students will be previewing their book club books, asking questions to build background knowledge, and examining informational text structures. We will be reading informational books in addition to our historical fiction books to build our background knowledge. Students will have daily assigned reading (as well as in-class time to read). They will have reading assignments from their book club book as well as from non-fiction texts on epicbooks.com Students are welcome to read at home as well!
Writing--We will be writing like historians! We will be wrapping up our Biography posters this week and they will be in the hallway near the cafeteria for viewing. We will then move to some opinion writing before another research project over the time period of their historical fiction novel.
