Miami Flooding Getting Worse
Rising sea levels are increasing the severity of flooding
What's Happening
Flooding has always been a problem in Miami, Florida but lately it has been getting worse. Sea levels have already risen over three inches in the last nineteen years and are excepted to rise an additional three feet by 2100. This poses a sever problem for Miami and all cities that live along coastal areas. However, new test show that the rate of sea levels is rising to over an inch per year if that holds up coastal cities can be completely flooded in 50 years. Because of the salt water pushing closer in land it forces the fresh water out. This has caused some cities to shut down there wells due to contamination.
This can be related to our course because we have a unit on water based disasters in the future.
