Before we started our math assessments on Friday we brainstormed ideas of "How to Avoid Flaws." One strategy that we listed was, take your time. GOOD NEWS! They took that advice. After two math periods most of them are now finished. If they did not finish, they will have time finish in the mornings until it is complete. We will start Unit 5 tomorrow.
Social Studies:
Posters will be done tomorrow! Our next step is to take some time to enjoy each other's work. Our next project will be to design a postage stamp that reflects something about the region they studied.
From Mrs. Johnson
Reading: Last week we explored various non-fiction text features such as the table of contents, index, glossary, photos/pictures with captions, charts and graphs, maps, and so on. Today we immersed ourselves in informational writing - books, textbooks, and magazines - and made a list of everything we noticed about these types of texts. We also explored the structures or formats that authors use within the text such as cause/effect, summary, question/answer, compare/contrast, and narrative. We will continue to explore how authors use these structures in their writing as the students prepare to start their own informational pieces.
Writing: All students have finished their district opinion essay assessments. Look for graded rubrics to come home soon. We are working through the district performance task, which is the last piece of our opinion writing unit. Ask your students about the pros and cons they’ve discovered about zoos from our three sources and what position they plan to take on the issue. We should finish those essays this week and move on to informational writing next week.
