Eagle's Eye View: Parent Edition
March 2017
Del Director
Dear Zarrow Family,
I hope this message finds you very well and that you all are ready to have a wonderful month of March! Spring is definitely on its way and we are all getting excited for the warmer weather and sunny days ahead.
As we embark on this new month, I want to remind you all how committed I am to Zarrow until my last day. I won’t lie; it has been a very bittersweet experience these past couple of days. I love this school, these students, my wonderful teachers, and all of the incredible parents. I want to be very clear that I did not look for and apply for this position. I say that to let you all know that mentally I was not thinking of leaving this wonderful school and family. For this reason, as well as others, it has been difficult to say the least. Nevertheless, the most exciting Thai adventures are ahead and for that I am excited. I have been truly blessed to receive so much support from you all, too. Gracias for that. And I have also been making sure your students know that I love them to death and that we will forever be in each other’s hearts.
With that being said, this amazing family still has so much to do and one way that we are able to really make this place shine is with our PTA and Foundation! Our teachers have the wonderful support and backing for our amazing maestros, and the Foundation is giving their all as they support so many positions. Our teaching assistants are doing such wonderful things in our classrooms. The Amity team has been such a blessing this year. And, for the first time, we have the highest number ever of applicants for the Exchange Program. I continue to be amazed at how miraculous this place really is, and it’s because of parents like you who have so much heart and enthusiasm for the highest success for ZIS.
Soooooooooooooooo, I really hope that this Saturday we all get to live it up together, one last time, and give our ALL for the next year at Zarrow International School! VIVA ZARROW is going to be such a blast and I, for one, am super excited and thrilled to have the PTA and Foundation come together as we, as a Zarrow family, continue to make this school one of the best of the best! When we soar high, we soar really high!!!
In closure, I’d like to share a heartfelt poem that I found. This poem reminded me, at this time when we come together, what it means to be family and do what is best for each other and for our fabulous Zarrow students. Padres, you all are so amazing and a true gift of joy and happiness!
Gracias por todo and thank you for being who you are. And remember to make today the very best day for this day begins the rest of your lives!
Family Comes Together - Poem by Glaedr the poet
Family comes together
For always and forever
In sickness and in health
In poverty or in wealth
Family comes together
For always and forever
Without any reason
Anytime or any season
Family comes together
For always and forever
In death or in life
In happiness or in strife
Family comes together
For always and forever
In anger or in kindness
Whether all seeing or in blindness
Family comes together
For always and forever
Whether for work or for play
They somehow find a way
For family to come together
Because families are forever

Counselor's Corner
I do not remember when I discussed the Oklahoma College Savings Plan (OCSP) in Counselor’s Corner. Our Zarrow community places emphasis on an education and on children attending college and/or receiving vocational training. As a result I want to share the research I did on what in my opinion is a good plan to invest in for college. When my granddaughter was one year old, I started contributing to the OCSP for her and I do for my three grandsons too. If you want more information, I encourage you to go to www.529oklahoma.org. A college education is expensive no matter where an individual goes to school. The sooner you start saving, the sooner you can take advantage of the compounding effect of time on your contributions.
Several of the benefits of putting money into an OCSP account for your child is more than just mom and dad can contribute to it. Secondly, small amounts invested on a regular basis can add up and benefit from the power of tax-deferred compounding. And when you put money into an OCSP there is a tax advantage for residents of Oklahoma.
Money that is put in when a child is young has more opportunity to grow than money put in when the child enters high school. Education opens doors to a brighter future. It is a precious gift.
Grandpappy and Gah, my grandparents, gave me a savings bond on my birthday and Christmas. It was not exciting as the gift of a toy when I was a child. However, I appreciated the gift they gave me when I was older.
Thank you for letting me be a part of the good things that are happening at Zarrow!
