It's Halloween Carnival week!! Please join us this Friday evening and all day Saturday for the fantastic LCM Halloween Carnival! I know many of our fifth graders are excited about acting in the Haunted House! This Friday is Halloween Costume Dress-Up Day. Students may wear their Halloween costumes to school, but no masks, props, makeup, or face-paint are allowed.
Make sure to come to Flag Salute this Friday morning for a special "surprise" (shh!!) performance by our 5th graders!
Academic Updates
Language Arts
We are completing ELA Unit 2 this week. Our focus has been on reading fiction, with a particular emphasis on character traits. We have read several excerpts from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, as well as myths, legends, tall tales, trickster tales, and realistic fiction stories that examine the qualities that we admire in characters.
Math
This week, our focus will be on multi-digit division and understanding when division is used in real life situations.
Writing
Students will be completing their first narrative writing assignment this week (they started writing them last week.) Their prompt is to retell a particular event from "Camp Life," one of the stories from The Adventure of Tom Sawyer, from the point of view of a different character.
Social Studies
We are continuing our unit on the Revolutionary War. We have been exploring the personal and economic toll the conflict had on people living in the Colonies, as well as comparing and contrasting the British Army with the Continental Army, and learning about some of the important people and events of the time.
