Bulldog Family Bulletin
February 2024
Dear DC Scholars Families,
Today, I am writing to share two important updates for the upcoming school year.
Leadership Transition for School Year 2024-2025
We are excited to share that DC Scholars is undergoing an organizational strategic plan to drive our PATH forward as an organization. After five years of dedicated service, our esteemed School Director, LeAngelo Emperator, is transitioning to a new role in our school community. He will continue to support our staff, scholars, families, and community partners in a different capacity as a leader at DC Scholars.
We want to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible work Mr. Emperator has done for our school community. Under his leadership, DC Scholars became united as one school serving PS-8th grade students. Through his dynamic and empathetic leadership, the school was able to navigate the challenging global pandemic to ensure our scholars continued to receive a quality education. He has spearheaded the improvement of student engagement, teacher recruitment, and staff professional development to raise the bar of academic excellence for all students at DC Scholars. His passion for education, commitment to our students’ well-being, and unwavering dedication to excellence have left an indelible mark on DC Scholars.
Given Mr. Emperator’s commitment and dedication to our school community, he will play a major role in the onboarding and training of the new principal as he leads critical strategic projects that will further enhance our school programming.
As we navigate this transition, the school is in the process of selecting a new Preschool to 8th grade principal. We believe that the input and perspectives of our families are invaluable in this selection process. Your feedback will play a crucial role in identifying a candidate who aligns with the values and aspirations of our school community. On Thursday, February 1st from 8:30-9:00, you are invited to the school for a breakfast meeting to share the qualities you are looking for in the school’s next principal.
We understand that change can bring both excitement and uncertainty, but we are confident that with your support, DC Scholars will continue to flourish.
Half Day Schedule Shift for School Year 2024-2025
After carefully considering feedback from our school community, we have decided to transition from our current Wednesday Half Day schedule to Fridays. This decision is a direct response to the valuable input we received from you, our families, and we believe it will better accommodate the needs of working families while ensuring scholars attend school every day Monday through Friday.
We will continue to offer the option of Friday-only aftercare through DC Scholars, providing extended care for those who may require it. In our commitment to providing a well-rounded education, we are also exploring ways to make Fridays extra special for our students. This includes considering opportunities for field trips, enrichment activities, and other school events that will add excitement and variety to their educational experience.
Your feedback is crucial to us, and we appreciate the openness and engagement of our school community in shaping positive changes. We believe that this adjustment will not only better meet the needs of our families but also contribute to a more enriching and fulfilling educational environment for our scholars. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this change, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We value your partnership and look forward to the continued success and growth of our DC Scholars community.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to DC Scholars. We look forward to working together as we embark on this new chapter in our school's journey.
Warm regards,
Amy Helms
Head of School
