PRE Newsletter
March 27, 2020
PRE Families,
As you are aware, on Tuesday, March 17th, Governor Laura Kelly ordered all public schools in Kansas to remain closed for regular operations through the end of the school year. Days following this, the announcement was made that the Kansas City area would be under a Stay at Home Order. These extraordinary actions are to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our state and community.
While our school buildings may be closed, we want learning to continue for all students in a reasonable way. PRE teachers are working diligently to design and implement a new Continuous Learning Plan for all students. We appreciate your patience and grace as we work through this process.
Students should expect to begin learning activities on April 1st, 2020, and your child's teacher will communicate with you what that will look like. Our plan for providing continued learning will focus on the remaining essential knowledge and skills needed for our students. Families will receive information from the district on Monday with follow-up communication from teachers early next week.
We appreciate your input concerning technology access, and we will work with you to ensure learning can continue. Teachers will be using email and SeeSaw to communicate with you along with Zoom. Teachers may also elect to hold live Zoom meetings during this time to allow connection and interaction between students.
Please know that we understand that you are settling into your new normal, and we are as well. Many of you are trying to juggle many things right now between working from home to helping your children to dealing with a struggling economy and beyond. Please know that we get it! We are dealing with similar situations and can empathize with you. Teachers have been reaching out to connect with you and share some information. We hope that you will find that our learning plan for 4th quarter is manageable for your family. If at any time you have questions or concerns, please let us know so that we can work with you.
The district is providing FREE meals to students to be picked up at specific locations on Mondays and Wednesdays until the end of the regularly scheduled school year. This service began Wednesday, March 25, and will continue on Monday, March 30th. More information can be found on the district website.
We are here to partner with you through this interesting time. We miss the daily interactions with your children and look forward to connecting with them soon!
Respectfully,
Kristel Fulcher
PRE Principal
Kindergarten Round-up
It is important for us to have a good idea of who will be in next year's kindergarten class. If you have already reached out to the PRE office to give us your child's information, you should have received an email from Mrs. Fulcher today. If you did not receive an email from Mrs. Fulcher, we do NOT have your child on our list.
Never fear, we have a quick and easy document that you can fill out, and you will be added to our list.
PRE Families, if you know of an incoming kindergartener, please forward this document. We want to make sure we have all of our future Cougars accounted for!
New News at PRE
Melissa Jackson, current building secretary, will be moving to the reading room to become the reading aide. Melissa has experience in this role as she was the reading aide before Kelly Milam!
This means that we are looking for a new building secretary. If you know of anyone who is cheerful, organized, detail oriented, loves kids and adults, and would like to work in a school, the position is now posted on the district website.
Are We Still Ordering Yearbooks?
YES!!! The new ordering window is open through April 1. We are still planning a full color yearbook. We will be addressing the distribution of yearbooks at a later date. Please see the information below!
