Our Inspiring Educators
Kim Wolcott - Plymouth North High School
Each year, the Plymouth Public Schools' staff is invited to nominate a colleague for the district's Inspiration Award. Four remarkable staff members were honored at this year's Opening Day ceremony, including Mrs. Kim Wolcott, Social Studies Educator at Plymouth North High School.
Mrs. Wolcott has been an exceptional educator since she began her career at Plymouth North High School nearly 22 years ago. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, Mrs. Wolcott!
PCIS School Nurse Educator, Judy Duarte
In just five short years, School Nurse Educator, Judy Duarte, has made a monumental impact on the PCIS school community. Judy's daily long list of responsibilities as a school nurse include everything from caring for students with injuries and acute illnesses to communication with parents, referral to physicians, continued management of students with special health care needs, and much more - but she doesn't stop there!
Nurse Judy has visited classrooms to educate students on heart health, Type 1 Diabetes, first aid, and has provided Hands Only Training CPR training for Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Awareness Month alongside colleague, PCIS School Nurse Educator, Jenna Sullivan. Judy has also provided CPR training to staff district-wide.
While schools were closed during the start of the pandemic, Nurse Judy and Nurse Jenna worked tirelessly to make sure families had nutritious groceries. They helped to organize food donations, packed hundreds of bags with cereal, fruit, non-perishables, and delivered them to families in need. Nurse Judy even provided families with videos on important health topics like how and why to administer an EpiPen. For her efforts in supporting a student who was 100% remote, PCIS awarded Nurse Judy with the Golden Apple Award, an award that reflects parent recognition for going above and beyond.
More recently, Nurse Judy, alongside School Psychologist, Ms. Lori Rush, brought the Yellow Tulip Project to PCIS inviting students to take part in numerous meaningful activities all year long to promote awareness of mental health and smash the stigma associated with it. Student ambassadors planted 500 yellow tulip bulbs, painted positive images and quotes on the yellow rocks to add to the Hope Garden, and even collected donated items to items to give to the Franciscan Children's child and adolescent psychiatric units. The Yellow Tulip Project club recently hosted a Hope Walk to celebrate a wonderful year of bringing mental health awareness to PCIS and the community.
Thank you, Nurse Judy, for all you do for the PCIS students, staff, families, and Plymouth community!
