2018-2019 School Year: Volume 20: Week of January 28, 2019
Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
We made it.....it is the 1/2-way point at Grandview
A New Year and a new marking period is a new beginning and an opportunity at the elementary to renew our commitment that together, we will educate every student, everyone, every day! January and February are busy months with events at Grandview; movie night, math night, CEF bowling event, and our Valentine's day dances, just to name a few. Students continue to take mid-year assessments as we continue to use data to ensure we are doing our best for our students. You will hear from your child's teacher with report cards and of any concerns with their learning as we head into the 2nd half of the school year. This is our district’s mid-year check to see and ensure the growth of all of our students. I want to thank parents for your feedback and patience with me this first half of the year as I learn the culture and the rich traditions at Grandview. I take not only educating your children seriously but also spend a great deal of time ensuring their safety as well. Speaking of safety, with the anticipated cold temperatures of winter, especially this week, please make sure that coats, boots, snow pants, hats, and mittens/gloves are sent with your child each day. Please take the time to label all clothing.
Thank you all for a wonderful 2018 and allowing us to work with your children. Grandview is a very special place and we strive to do our absolute best every day!
Thank you for your continued support at home!

- Mr. Shepich sends out a robocall to families
- I will tweet from @grandview elementary and make a post on Grandview's facebook page
- Staff, nor the office, come in on these days, so no one will be at the office to answer the phone.

WIDA
All students who have a language other than English spoken at home and are identified as English Learners must take a state test called WIDA ACCESS for ELLs (Accessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State for English Language Learners). The Enrollment Office form that was completed when your son/daughter enrolled in Clarenceville Schools tells us this information. Students will take the test eve if they are not attending ESL/EL classes. The test is for Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Comprehension in English. Students will take the test between February 4-March 22, 2019. We will mail your child's test results to you when we receive them from the Michigan Department of Education. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Morrison at 248-919-0404.

Tardy
We have had a lot of students arriving late. Tardies start at 8:40 and will be tracked. If your child comes in after the class did the lunch count, then they will automatically get PB&J as their lunch choice. Lunch counts will not be finalized until after 8:40. If you know your child is going to be late, then please call in the tardy and select your child's lunch choice to ensure that they can get another choice. Our lunch counts are becoming very lopsided and we need to ensure that the children are getting the choice that they signed up for. Also we need our students on time for school!!
Kroger and Grandview
We have collected $7.83 from August to October (we are newly established in Mid October so the collection is from half a month).
We have 21 families registered! Though I know we can have more!!! So please sign-up. Guidelines are below!!
Simply encourage your participants to visit http://www.kroger.com. Once logged into their Kroger account they can search for Friends of Grandview either by name or TH003 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address and a rewards card.
*Customers must have a registered Kroger rewards card account to link to your organization.
*If a member does not yet have a Kroger rewards card, please let them know they are available at the customer service desk at any Kroger
REMEMBER, purchases will not count for your organization until after your participants register their rewards card.
Participants must swipe their registered Kroger rewards card or use the phone number that is related to their registered Kroger rewards card when shopping for each purchase to count.
Bookflix for Grandview Families
The Michigan eLibrary did not renew their subscription to Bookflix. We found great value in this site for our children. Therefore, Grandview purchased a school subscription that allows teachers and students to use the following username and password to access Bookflix at home and at school. Please feel free to use this at home. The link is as follows.....
https://digital.scholastic.com/site/launch/bkflix?ucn=600063987
There is a link on the Library symbaloo and will be putting a link under the student links on the Clarenceville website.
Username: grandvw
Password: flix
If you click on the apple and book in the top right corner, it takes you to a Resources and Tools page where you can search for books, search by themes, running times and grade levels.
This is another way to engage your students with their learning at home.
Enjoy!!!
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
Meetings are underway for both of these great organizations. Girl Scouts will be meeting on Wednesdays and Boy Scouts will be meeting on Mondays at 6:30. Come join the fun!
Transportation Changes
Do not rely on just the office for transportation changes. It is important that you also put it in writing in an email to the teacher. If you alert the teacher and the office, chances are better that the message is delivered accurately. We have so many transportation changes at the end of the day that makes us uneasy that a mistake could occur. Please do not make a change after 3:00!!
