Humanitarian efforts
- In September of 1978 at Camp David, carter invited Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin
- On September 17, 1978 they signed a treaty saying that Israel will return land back to Egypt and Egypt will respect Israel's borders.
- This ended 30 years of hostility
- Carter cut off aid to countries with leaders who were violating human rights
- Supported countries that recognized human rights
- Resumed diplomatic relation with China in 1979
