Acadience Reading Reports Coming Home!
Dear Rainbow Families,
All Rainbow students are tested three times during the school year using Acadience Reading. The purpose of this assessment is to monitor your child's development in reading, to identify students needing additional help, and to guide the teacher's classroom instruction.
In the last several weeks, we have tested all students to check their reading progress. Teachers will use this information, along with classroom information, to determine any areas in which students need more instruction or enrichment.
Your student will be bringing their Acadience Reading reports home today. Please be sure to review your student's Acadience Reading information and to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions concerning your student's reading progress.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Stauffer

Water Beads
Water beads are a popular kids’ toy made up of small polymer balls that expand in water to create a squishy, sensory experience (Orbeez are a popular brand, but they go by other names as well). They have been in the news lately due to a popular social media trend known as the “Orbeez Challenge”.
Unfortunately, we have seen an increase in water beads in school. They have been found in sinks, toilets, and floors of our schools. This poses a safety hazard at our school community.
Because the beads expand in water, they can cause clogging of toilets and drains. Like most kids’ toys, water beads are small and brightly colored, and they look a lot like candy, boba balls or gum, especially before the water beads have expanded to full size. Unfortunately, it is extremely easy for children to put these colored balls in their mouth, ears, or nose. If they are consumed — even one — this can lead to choking or bowel obstruction.
Thank you for your support in keeping our building safe!

- Math – May 1 & 2 (grades 3 - 5)
- Science - May 3 & 4 (grade 4 only)
While assessment scores represent a snapshot in time of student performance and should not be considered the sole indicator of student achievement, your students participation in testing is important. Data obtained from each assessment serves as one of the tools for planning school programs, designing curriculum and instruction, and providing information to the public.
Pokemon Cards
Pokemon cards are enjoying a resurgence in popularity, but unfortunately, they are sometimes problematic when brought to school. Recently, the Rainbow staff and I have addressed many issues with missing cards, disagreements about trades, and damaged cards. Sadly, the issues have been upsetting to children and their families, and they have taken up time that is dedicated to instruction.
To alleviate these issues, we are requesting that Pokemon cards remain at home. I know that some children greatly enjoy playing with them, but the issues associated with playing with them at school have been significant. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to create the best learning environment for our students
Love the Bus Month!
Love the Bus Month is celebrated every February and is dedicated to the influence of the school bus in American school culture. The holiday appreciates the individuals and organizations involved in the operation of school buses including the drivers.
Love the Bus Month is an opportunity to showcase the amazing school bus drivers and all other professional staff that make student transportation possible in the Commonwealth.
Please help us show the love by having your student complete the coloring page and thank you card below to give to their favorite school bus driver!

Message from the School Nurse
Hi Rainbow Community,
I am reaching out to ask for your support as we navigate the trifecta of Flu (Influenza), RSV, and Covid. Chester County is experiencing high levels of Influenza A. COVID-19 is at medium level. RSV is most common under the age of 5. These children may have cold symptoms, sore throat, fever, not eating or drinking well. Sometimes, RSV infection can lead to wheezing or bronchiolitis or pneumonia. You should have your child seen by the doctor for proper diagnosis.
Vaccines for Influenza and COVID-19 are available at many pharmacies and Chester County Department of Health by appointment only, 610-344-5405.
Please keep your child home if they are sick. If your student becomes sick at school, you will be asked to pick them up promptly. Students with Influenza can return to school after being fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medication and symptoms have improved.
If your child test positive for COVID-19, the must isolate for 5 full days. The first full day of symptoms is Day 0. They can return with a well-fitting mask on Day 6 if their symptoms are improving and fever free for at least 24 hours without fever reducing medication.
This is our district illness policy which can be found on the CASD website under Rainbow:“The following are some symptoms which may mean that your child is ill. Your child should remain at home when he/she has: Fever over 100 degrees, chills. persistent cough or shortness of breath, vomiting. diarrhea, unusual skin rash. severe sore throat, enlarged glands, abdominal pain, or inflamed eyes/eye discharge. A child should remain home at least 24 hours without a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and/or vomiting following an illness. By following these guidelines, you will protect not only the health of your child, but the health or his/her classmates. Note that your child will not be able to attend school if he/she is suffering from untreated pink eye, impetigo, ringworm, scabies, unusual skin rash, severe sore throat, or fever over 100 degrees.”
All the best,
Maria Buhl, School Nurse

Transportation: A nationwide bus driver shortage is impacting many districts, including Coatesville, and may lead to increased delays. Buses normally run late the first two weeks of school as students and drivers become accustomed to their routes. We appreciate your patience. If your student is riding the bus, please have them at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the arrival of the bus.
Parent-Pick-Up Notes: Thank you for having patience with us as we work to make our afternoon dismissal more efficient. Please help up with this by sending a parent pick up note into school with your student. You may send in a handwritten note or download and print the form below.
