💗 Character Warms the Heart Week: February 13-17
February 13-17 is our Pirates ROCK "Character Warms the Heart" week, when we warm up with our good character and great leadership with fun spirit week activities and collect items for our Treasure Chest resource center to help PCR-3 families in need. We're collecting shampoo & conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and cereal this year.
Participate in our spirit days and send in any donations to our schools! Reminder: Friday, February 17 there is no school for our District In-service Day, a great day to send a nice note to a friend or staff member. See flier for details on our spirit days and come cheer on our Pirates at the Home Basketball games on February 14!

Due to staff training, our Barry office will be closed on February 17 from 12-3:30. School will not be in session that day, but wanted to share this for your planning purposes.

🏴☠️ Pirates ROCK Character Trait: SELF CONTROL (February)
Pirates R.O.C.K. (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) is a program designed to surround our families with examples of strong character traits through school experiences, at home, and reinforced in their community. Each month our community focuses on a specific character trait and students are recognized for exhibiting these traits: Self Confidence, Pride, Responsibility, Citizenship, Compassion, Individuality, Self Control, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Honesty, and Cooperation.
February's #PiratesROCK trait is Self Control: displaying your emotions & behaviors in a positive way.
Character Strong connections to SELF CONTROL:
- Self-Management, Responsible Decision-Making, Patience, Respect, Forgiveness

2023-24 Academic Calendar Approved
The Board approved the academic calendar for the 2023-24 school year, as suggested by teachers, support staff, parents and board members on the calendar committee, and taking into consideration feedback during public review. The first day of school on August 22, the last day of school on May 22, and potential makeup days are planned for May 23, 24, and 28-31. It is important to note this calendar makes a shift from 2-hour early release days for Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to full-day Professional Learning Days. The change in approach will provide teachers with more efficient and focused time for professional development, while reducing the number of days parents have to find day care alternatives for their children.
Do you have an incoming Kindergartner?
Children who have turned five years of age before August 1, 2023, are eligible for kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year and are invited to our Kindergarten Kickoffs in our elementaries on Thursday, March 30. Families are encouraged to view the attendance area boundary map linked here on the District website, or call the District office at 816-858-5420 for confirmation of attendance area. If you know of a family with a child entering kindergarten, please pass this information along, and if your family has an incoming kindergartner, please complete the following form. We will send you additional information about Kindergarten Kickoff and an enrollment packet.
Platte County Health Department School Supply Questionnaire
The Platte County Health Department would like to know the top 3 school supplies/items you see year after year that students need. If you would like to help them with this information, please take a moment and fill out this brief questionnaire (it will take you 30 seconds!).
🍽️ Negative Meal Account Balances
Schools have been in the process of notifying parents of students with negative meal account balances. If your child currently has a negative balance, please clear the funds due ASAP by bringing cash or a check (made out to PCR3) to the school office or by adding funds to your student's meal account online through the K12 payment center. If negative meal balances are not resolved after multiple notifications, the district will turn over the unpaid charges to a collection agency, per board policy. If you think you may qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch, see the information here on how to apply so that your student is covered for future meals.

CHARACTER STRONG FAMILY DARES
Every week students go through a Character Strong lesson that helps build on our 8 traits: Honesty, Forgiveness, Commitment, Kindness, Humility, Selflessness, Patience, and Respect. Starting shortly students will be asked to complete a Student Character Dare. These are to help build on practices that are taught in our weekly lesson. Some dares can be as simple as asking someone new to join their table to reaching out to someone students look up to and writing them a letter.
We are encouraging each family to complete the monthly Family Dare. Each Family Dare offers parents, guardians, and families the opportunity to engage in challenges designed to increase connection and conversation at home. These dares also provide students with more opportunities to practice habits discussed in class.
February's Family Dare is: Gratitude Grams
If you take a picture of your family completing the dare, please send pictures to Amy Gardner at gardnera@platteco.k12.mo.us. She will post pictures on Social Media and we can showcase them on our TV's at school.

❄️ Winter Weather Information
Click here for information on school cancellations/modifications due to inclement weather, how the District will notify parents, as well as information on recess, Y Club, and Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days. As a reminder, PCR-3 will implement traditional inclement weather days (no school and no virtual learning), until we reach a threshold that would push the school year past Memorial Day. We will make those days up per our academic calendar, and if we go past our planned make-up days for inclement weather, we will implement our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days.
Field Trip Parent Volunteer Procedures
We have some field trip information that is starting to be sent home. If you would like to be a parent volunteer for any of our trips, we're asking that parents be scanned through our Hall Pass system prior to the field trip. This scan can be done by coming up to the main office a few days prior to the field trip and once you are in the system, it will be good for the whole semester.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining our safe and caring environment!
