Our Vision: Learning and Growing in Christ
Dear Parents and Caregivers
We need these reminders. Jesus also says, 'There is no need to be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom.' Let's hold onto that with gratitude. We have been given so much. Yes, it is important to be watchful and vigilant when it comes to the way we live and the choices we make but to always remember that we have someone looking out for us, always keeping watch over us, who has us in view when we go astray, seeking and searching us out. I think that is what we need to be constantly awake to and vigilant about.

Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
The weeks continue to fly by and already we’re being told how many weeks until Christmas and we wonder, why? Why are we always living for the future instead of living for today, the present and focusing on the opportunities of today and how much we can achieve today here and now.
This week we have so much to celebrate. We have new five year olds entering our school today and hope they will grow into lifelong learners who will Learn and Grow in Christ as they journey here with us for the next six or eight years.
Our Year 7 & 8 netball teams will be challenged to prove they are the best teams in the South West Zone on Tuesday and let’s hope they are.
All our students will be challenged to achieve and continue to Learn and Grow in Christ each and everyday they attend school here, at Holy Cross Catholic School.
This week we will also miss the presence of both Father Andrew and Father Albert who will be meeting with Bishop Steve and all the clergy of the Auckland Diocese up at Waitangi.
Arohanui.

Welcome to our Place
We welcome the following students to our school community during the past month and we hope they will enjoy their time here as they journey with us Learning and Growing in Christ: Ainalani Ah Yek, Poufa Anitelea, Ezra Brbich, Mareko de Jong, Rosario Lufe, Taimānea-Atarangi Potangaroa, Rico-Alexander Uini-Mealamu, Luisa Moa, Elizabeth Moa, Alani Tuala, Ivanka Hirmiz, Francis Vasquez.
Attendance and Lateness
Whilst we fully understand sickness and COVID is unavoidable and prevents children from attending school but we are concerned about the children with spasmodic attendance.
We now have an Engagement in Schools Worker who has been employed to assist with those students who have unexplained erratic attendance. Our aim and the aim of the Government is to strive for 95% attendance across our schools.
Attendance is also affected if you are regularly late to school or leave early. Please set your children up with very good self-management skills starting with getting to school on time and learning to be punctual, remind them that school starts at 8.45am.
Attendance Dues
Parent Interviews
If you were unable to attend Parent Interviews at the end of last term, teachers are available this Wednesday 10 August between 3pm and 5pm.
Please email the class teacher or telephone the office and a time can be arranged. Hopefully all the parents who missed their interview can now attend this week.

Book Week Competition 2023
Our two competitions closed on Friday and there were several correct entries in the naming of the Goldfish Competition. Our two goldfish - one has been named Holy and the other silver one has been named Cross.
Milan Leaupepe successfully matched 14 pets with the correct teacher and only three were unmatched. These two competitions brought many students to the library during the breaks and we are hoping that the library visits will continue. It was great to see some of the younger children being read to by the older students during the breaks.
The Tri Annual Board of Trustees Elections
We have received eight nominations for our School Board of Trustees and five Parent Representatives need to be appointed.
All of our nominees have provided a brief statement about themselves so you can learn a little about them to assist you when you are completing your votes.
All voting papers were posted on Sunday 7 August and you have until 7 September to vote and return the papers to school. Any postal votes will be accepted if received within five days after the election.
Completed voting papers can be placed in a sealed box in the school office if you are worried about posting your votes.
