Fall Semester at ECU
What's been going on in Pirate country...
Things happen so fast in college ministry that it's hard to keep up. Looking back on the past semester, I can't help but smile as I see God's hand in the midst of the craziness, forming a group of strangers into a community around his Word.
I wish everyone who cares about RUF at ECU could see everything I get to see on campus. It is truly a privilege to see students growing together, wrestling through questions, and fighting against sin. Since I can't show y'all all of that, I've put together a few snapshots from the past three months that give you a glimpse of what's going on at ECU.
Glow Stick Capture the Flag
Last year we tried glow stick CTF as an outreach event during the first week of classes. Six people came. This year we tried again, and, aided by some of Chane's advertising expertise, we had nearly 150 students come! It was quite chaotic, and a lot of fun.
Finding balance at Fall Conference
In September two dozen ECU students made the 7 hour trek across the state to the NC mountains. The travel paid off as we joined nearly 300 other students from universities around the southeast for a weekend of fun, fellowship, worship and great gospel preaching by Rev. John Pearson on the glory of God.
Ghost stories at the bonfire
Once the weather started to cool off, one of our students invited RUF at ECU out to her grandparents' farm for a good old fashioned bonfire. The highlight of the night was composing an extemporaneous ghost story with each person adding a line to the plot.
Skeet Shoot
In November, the good folks at Wilson Presbyterian Church invited us out to the country for some target shooting. Our students had a blast shooting, laughing, and enjoying God's beautiful Creation.
Friendsgiving
The Monday before Thanksgiving, students organized our first annual Friendsgiving. We initially planned to have it at a student's apartment, but the RSVPs came flooding in. We eventually had to use the fellowship hall at our church to make space for everyone. Students cooked collared greens, sweet potato pie, and even a turkey. Everyone brought something, and it was delicious.
One of our weekly Large Group meetings
This is the view I enjoyed every Wednesday night of the semester as I had the privilege of preaching the gospel to college students. Our sermon series was "Meals with Jesus," and each week we explored one of the many accounts of Jesus dining with people during his earthly ministry. Themes of grace, hope, true satisfaction, and change shined through.

The Harts
Last year Tom and Chane moved with their two little ones, Simon (3) and Ragan (1) to begin a new ministry of RUF at ECU. They are loving life in Pirate country and are expecting Hart baby #3 next June.
