Cinema Vitti
Stromboli, Rossellini, 1950
Karin (Ingrid Bergman) follows a fisherman named Antonio (Mario Vitale) to his home on the island of Stromboli after their release from an internment camp at the end of the Second World War. However, Karin soon finds the island to be more of a new prison than a new home. Karin finds the residents of Stromboli as inhospitable and hot-tempered as the volcanic island itself. Discovering her pregnancy, Karin becomes desperate, and asks God for help, eventually planning her escape.
Friday, September 27th, and Saturday, 28th, at 6:00 PM
Zollo Special Event Lectures
You are invited to explore the momentous changes that the Italian people have experienced since the end of the 19th century through the photographs of the Alinari Photo Archive at this year's Zollo Special Event. Dr. Andrea De Polo Saibanti will host two lectures at the Casa Italiana on September 27th and 28th. The first will focus on the transformation of Italian daily life and the changes in culture and tradition from the late 1800s up through today. The second lecture will propose a comparison of emigration from Europe to the Americas over the past century to the contemporary immigration into Europe . A light dinner will follow both events. Please join us for this enriching and beautiful conference.
