Rattlin Rattler
November Issue
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
We are now starting our 2nd nine weeks and by now I hope that you had an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and go over where they stand in their new grade level. Our teachers have done an amazing job getting our year off to a good start.
Our Fall Festival was a huge success. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped out in any way. We could not have done it without the help of all involved. I sure had a blast!! Kudos to our PTA for organizing this successful event that brought in $6,000. The funds will go to funding field trips for our little Rattlers. So thank you to all the PTA Board, Raba teachers/staff and PTA volunteers. I look forward to seeing you all on Nov 13th for the next PTA meeting and 4th grade performance. PTA is sponsoring Brave Parenting—by Kelly Newcomb and she will be speaking after the 4th grade performance.
The Holidays are fast approaching and while we do look forward to those days... we also try our best to stay focused on our learning. One of our campus goals is to increase reading levels of all the students PK-5 by 10%. Reading is important at school and at home. We have also set a goal to increase student achievement in grades PK-5 by at least 10% in all subject areas. Please talk to your teachers to see what you can do to help us reach our goals. Our third goal is to decrease Attendance Warning Notices (AWN) by 10%. Decreasing AWNs is correlated to an increase in student achievement. Students in the classroom will learn, while students out of the classroom will miss out on essential teaching. Please help us reach our goals and make Raba the destination school in Northside.
Let’s Keep Moving Forward!
Yours in education,
Mrs. Francesca L. Neal
Attendance Matters!
As we start our new nine weeks, this means that your child can work towards making perfect attendance and getting their name put in for the End of the Year Award drawing of a brand new bike thanks to Mr. Sosa of Sequel Financial. Children will have an opportunity to have their name put in for the drawing at the end of every nine weeks. That is four opportunities! A bike will be awarded to one boy and one girl. Our daily attendance goal is 97.5%
With the new season comes allergies and cold/flu season. When your child is not here at school we miss them, but we understand that getting them well is a high priority. Please remember if your child is absent to send a parent or doctor's note as soon as possible.
Any questions on attendance, please contact our Vice Principal, Mrs. Diaz.

Student Council Thanksgiving Food Drive – Turkey “Dressing”
How does it work? Each teacher will have a turkey displayed in our hallways. Each canned or dry food item that you bring in will earn you a feather. This year we will not be accepting cash or checks. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY MONETARY DONATIONS. The students will bring their non-perishable item to the front of the library between 7:10 a.m.-7:40 a.m. The student will then take the feather to their teacher to “dress” their turkey.
What do you need to do? Please completely fill out the order form that was sent home and bring in your non-perishable food item.
What items can I bring in? You may bring any non-perishable food item. However, the San Antonio Food Bank’s Top Twelve Most Wanted are…
Peanut Butter
Tuna
Cereal
Beans
Rice
Mac & Cheese
Chili
Canned Stews
Canned Soups
Canned Luncheon Meats
Full Meals Can/Box
Pop Top Food Items
**No Ramen Noodles Please!
Student Council appreciates your support!

Entirely Elementary, School Counseling!
Greetings from your Raba counselors! October was National Bully Prevention month, and our students celebrated by meeting with their buddy classes! Together they created hearts and hands; describing ways we can show respect to others! Raba Elementary has received national recognition from the ADL, and is designated a “No Place for Hate” school! We are so proud of our students and their commitment to being buddies, not bullies!
November’s pillar of the month is Fairness! Teachers will be on the lookout for students who display this pillar of character. Those students will be chosen to represent their class at the end of the year pillar parade!
We would like to thank our very own third-grade teacher, Mrs. Nina Guajardo, for taking initiative and supporting our school counseling program! Mrs. Guajardo is a UTSA counseling practicum student. She has recently organized our Friday morning pep-rallies, and we are so happy to have her on our team!
As always Raba Rattlers, our counseling doors are open to students and parents!
