The District has partnered with the local chapter of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to provide RCSD families with a free monthly book subscription for children from birth to age 5. Each month, the Imagination Library mails an age-appropriate book to the homes of all registered children, at no cost to the child’s family. The books feature a diverse cast of characters, settings, and authors.

This initiative will help increase the literacy and kindergarten readiness of our youngest learners by providing families with a new, high-quality book each month. For more information on the Imagination Library, including registration, please visit www.rochesterimaginationlibrary.org/sign-up.

There are many scholarships available to help students and families pay for college, and now is the time to apply! Visit www.rcsdk12.org/collegeready for a list of scholarship opportunities, resources, and how-to videos to help with the application process. As always, students can also connect with their school counselors for assistance.

There are many ways in which students can start planning life after high school. Students have access to BigFuture through their College Board accounts. BigFuture has career quizzes, a career exploration section, and steps to help you plan for college and careers. Pathways to MCC offers diploma and non-diploma students assistance with foundational math and English courses to prepare them for a college degree or certification. The program typically takes two semesters to complete, and successful students may apply earned credits toward a degree or certificate program at MCC with the ability to apply for federal financial aid.

Strong Foundations is a full-semester program in developmental math and English designed to help students build their skills to better prepare them for college-level math and English.

Both programs are funded through a grant from the ESL Federal Credit Union, so there are no tuition costs to students. Fall slots are filling up quickly – please reach out to your school counselor or email strongfoundations@monroecc.edu!

Parent University is proud to host a special virtual Lunch and Learn series on financial literacy for RCSD caregivers throughout June to finish the year strong. We know children learn the most valuable life lessons at home, including how to manage their money, make sound financial decisions, and save for a successful future.

Our kick-off for the Financial Literacy Lunch and Learn Workshops is Tuesday, June 6, beginning at 11:00 am. All workshops are held on Zoom. Upon your registration, you will receive the Zoom link.

There is also an opportunity for the whole crew to participate in family-centered exploration and play during our Academy Saturday at School No. 5, 555 N. Plymouth Ave, on June 3!

Parent University is a series of free programs and events meant to educate and empower parents within our District and the Rochester community. RTS bus passes, childcare, and interpretation services are available for participating families for any session with advanced notice via phone (324-9999) or online registration.

Parent Leadership Advisory Council (PLAC)

Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC)

Bilingual Education Council (BEC)

BEC is made up of parents, community organizations, students, teachers, and administrators of the RCSD who have demonstrated their concern for the development of bilingual education. Multilingual Parent Advisory Council (MPAC)

All parents and guardians of students who are learning English as a new language are encouraged to attend a monthly MPAC meeting. Our last meeting of the school year is Monday, June 12, at 3:30 pm, at the Office of Adult and Career Education Services (OACES), 30 Hart Street, 14605. Email mpac@rcsdk12.org for more information.
