Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
As we look ahead to our new academic year, we wanted to share some exciting extracurricular opportunities for our older students at Glenealy for Term 1 2018. As you start to plan extracurricular clubs for Term 1, we wanted to make you aware of these days in advance to help you plan your child’s schedules.

Interested children from Years 4-6 can audition for a part. Rehearsals will then take place on Thursdays in The Centre starting on September 6th and will culminate in an evening performance on the 15th of November.
Keep an eye out for further opportunities that come available as the year progresses, including training opportunities for Tag Rugby, Basketball and cross country running in Term 2.
Also look out for ‘Jump Starts: skills & fitness sessions’ - starting on Friday mornings before school, catering for different year groups.
More information on all these activities will follow and we hope this will be useful as you look forward to Term 1.
Staff Leavers
You will be aware that Gay Thompson (PE Coordinator and Teacher) and Erika Dubinsky (Part Time Individual Needs teacher) leaving Glenealy and Hong Kong. In my newsletter closer to the end of the term, I will bid farewell to these two teachers.

Today I would like to formally recognise the work of other staff who will be leaving us at the end of this academic year.
Michelle Zhang
Michelle has been working in our Mandarin Department on a part time basis, 2 days per week. During this time Michelle has taught alongside the team, supporting the students and staff. She has been active in promoting Chinese programmes including helping on the Shenzhen excursion each year. Michelle is a newly qualified teacher and she has secured a full time position at another international school. We wish her all the best.
Helena Harrison
Helena has been an EA with us for 8 years. During this time she has mainly worked with the younger children in her full time EA position. Helena is extremely talented and efficient and has helped coordinate our GS Yearbook which has gone from strength to strength under her leadership. We will all miss her as she has contributed so much. Helena is moving to a new role within another International School in HK and we wish her all the very best.
Paloma Shah
Paloma has worked with us as a part time EA in Year 6 for just under a year. Paloma had worked as an EA just under a year and has really enjoyed this role. Paloma will be moving to a full time role at another ESF School and we wish her all the best.

Uniform Fitting Days – thank you!
The PTA Committee would like to thank all those parents who volunteered to help with the Uniform Fitting Days for new Year 1 students and Year 6 students proceeding to Island School. The days went very smoothly and we were able to welcome parents and show them the friendly face of Glenealy – thanks for your support!
School Uniform
The school uniform ordering web site (www.schooluniform.hk) is now taking pre-orders for uniform for the new school year, for delivery in early August. Please note that there is a new sizing scale – check the web site for measurements. If you wish to arrange a fitting session of uniform in the new sizing, please contact Becky via email to pta@glenealy.net.
Important points to note:
- Only the sizing scale will change, the design remains the same. All uniform purchased this year is still current.
- Orders placed from now to end of June are pre-orders for the new school year. Delivery will be to your home in early August, before the start of the new school year.
- Once the new school year commences, orders placed will be delivered within 3-5 business days, as previously.
Old School Uniform – Last day of term
Donations of old uniform for re-use and recycling can be dropped off at the PTA Uniform Shop on Friday 29th June at 8.15 am. This is the last day of term and the children are not wearing school uniform that day. We have no provision for accepting uniform donations over the summer break.
If you have any questions or need more information about any aspect of school uniform please email Becky at pta@glenealy.net.
Thank you from The Green Team
We wanted to say a BIG thanks to all who helped make Green Week such a great success and by taking action. Please remember to continue to make a difference by Saying NO to Plastic - simply saying no to using a plastic straw is one step towards reducing the use of single use plastic.
Here are the highlights of our wonderful activities from last week
Remember in the words of Giovanni in 6B, “If We Change Others Will!”

Cents Collection for Impact HK
Have you ever seen someone sleeping on the streets or begging for money? Have you ever seen a coffin home like the model in the library? Do you want to help these people?
If you would like to help please donate any spare HK cent coins. All of your cents will go directly to the charity ‘Impact HK’. It would help provide food, water, blankets and other daily needs to the homeless of Hong Kong.
We will be in the lower playground from 8:00 am -8:30 am every Thursday morning until Thursday 21st June.
As the leader of Impact HK said to us when we interviewed him for our Exhibition Passion to Action project “Even 10 cents can make a difference.”
If you have any questions please come and see Imogen, Abby or Beecher in Y6.
Thank you for taking action and helping the homeless.
