New Teacher Induction Program Two-Part Series Sem. 1 2018.
Part One - Introduction
This session is for educators who are interested in using the Virtual Learning Environment (vLE) for blended learning in their classrooms. No previous experience is necessary. Kelly will provide an experiential learning model and guide you through the usage of the most important tools and resources in D2L. Blended learning uses the tools of the provincial Learning Management System (LMS) to teach and support learning in a face-to-face class. Through blended learning, students can access high-quality course materials, course calendars, and assignments during and outside school hours. This introductory session will focus on the following: overview of blended learning, Announcement tool, new lessons Content tool, new Activity Feed, Classlist tool, Discussion tool, Assignment (Drop box) tool, Calendar tool, HTML Editor, ordering courses, resources, use of the Quiz tool to help prepare students for the OSSLT and EQAO assessments, Digital Citizenship and best practices in modern learning and teaching pedagogy.

The session will be hosted in the Good Shepherd Computer lab which is located on the first floor directly across from the main entrance of the school.
Please wear employee ID. Sign in for the session and school will be hosted directly in the session room.

Part Two - Driving Innovation
Learn how to customize your homepage and add a customized widgets, create customized release of information, use of video assignments, portfolio, building collaborative spaces and other exciting and innovative practices that will engage your students using the vLE. This session a follow-up to the introductory training and geared for educators who are currently using the vLE for blended learning in their classrooms and would like to learn how to change the look and functionality of their course home page. Some of the tools that will be presented are: designing and inserting custom navbars and home page layout, creating and embedding customized widgets such as Twitter, Padlet, embed code, virtual field trips and creating custom logos and icons as well as a discussion of best practices and policies.
