Dear Families,

And just like that, we are in February 2023. We celebrated Lunar Chinese New Year last week and this month we celebrate Black History Month! We will have a performance by the Music Center's, Channing Cook-Holmes, a tap dancer and drummer extraordinaire who will take students on a tour dancing his way through tap history and more. Students will also be learning, sharing, and celebrating Black History throughout the month.


In these precarious times, we want our students to be safe and make choices that will help them. We will continue to practice kindness, how to be a good friend, and help students build positive relationships with respectful words. Take some time during dinner or family time to reinforce positive behavior and ask your child to share their goals and dreams. I highly recommend limiting and monitoring social media use as this has a negative impact on students.

Y así, estamos en febrero de 2023. ¡Celebramos el Año Nuevo Lunar Chino la semana pasada y este mes celebramos el Mes de la Historia Negra! Tendremos una presentación del Centro de Musica, Channing Cook-Holmes, un extraordinario bailarín de claqué y baterista que llevará a los estudiantes a un recorrido bailando a través de la historia del claqué y más. Los estudiantes también aprenderán, compartirán y celebrarán la historia negra durante todo el mes.


En estos tiempos precarios, queremos que nuestros estudiantes estén seguros y tomen decisiones que los ayuden. Continuaremos practicando la amabilidad, cómo ser un buen amigo y ayudar a los estudiantes a construir relaciones positivas con palabras respetuosas. Tómese un tiempo durante la cena o el tiempo en familia para reforzar el comportamiento positivo y pídales que compartan sus metas y sueños. Recomiendo limitar y monitorear el uso de las redes sociales y que esto tiene un impacto negativo en los estudiantes.

School Wide Goals

You may be wondering why only 85% for reading and 90% for attendance. Presently, 60% of students are reading at or above grade level and our attendance rate is at 88%. Our intent is to set realistic goals with students so that together we rise to the challenge by working hard, then celebrate, and then set new goals. Help your child by following the reading tips below and making sure they attend school each day! Thank you for your support!

Tips for Reading with your child!

Top 3 tips to help your child grow in reading: 1) Create a reading routine where you read to your child or they read to you: keep it simple but stick to it; 2) Embrace Re-Reading books: The first time your child reads a book, they use their brain power on decoding. When they re-read a book, they need less brain power to decode because they've seen the words before. Now their brain has "bandwidth" to devote to reading at a good pace, with expression and comprehension; 3) Ask Questions: Ask about the story, characters, the plot, have them predict what they think will happen, and help your child if they don't know.

Enrollment for 2023-24 is open. If you have a child, sibling, or relative who is turning 5 before Sept. 1, you can begin the pre-enrollment process. Visit our website, click on enroll and then on pre-enroll or enroll for continuing students.
