Author Visit- Liesl Shutliff - Feb. 12th- We look forward to our upcoming author visit with Liesl Shurtliff! She will be joining our third and fourth grade classes this Wednesday, February 12th! A special thanks to Mrs. Weiss for planning this amazing opportunity!

Today (Friday) we will select our Secret Cupids! This community-building activity is a great way to show kindness and share compliments leading up to Valentine’s Day! An informative letter will also be sent home next today, along with a list of your child’s Secret Cupid’s favorite things! This information, along with the brainstorming sheet, may be helpful in preparing their Valentine mailbox! At school, students will be providing their Secret Cupids with compliments and clues leading up to Valentine’s Day! Students will be asked to decorate a mailbox for their Secret Cupid to use as a Valentine holder. Please be sure to bring in your mailboxes to school by Thursday, February 13th, in order for your Secret Cupid to have a special container for their Valentines! f your child will not be at school on Thursday, February 13th, please send the mailbox in early! Thanks so much for your support!

You may have heard all about our great debates in class! These will lead us into our next form of opinion writing. Students will be working together and then independently writing opinion pieces linked to both fiction and nonfiction mentor text. They’ll continue to use the writing process to form pieces that include supportive reasoning to defend their claims. It’s been a true pleasure to watch students express their ideas and opinions freely! It appears we have some future lawyers and possible politicians in our classroom!

This week, the meteorologists are excited to kick off our unit on Water and Climate.

This week we will conduct investigations to observe the properties of water, Earth’s most precious resource! They’ll compare how water drops interact with four materials: paper towel, waxed paper, aluminum foil, and writing paper to observe how water absorbency. Later in the week the students will engage in a challenge to measure how much water a dry sponge can soak up. They’ll determine this by measuring mass, volume, or perhaps even both. Integrating what they’ve learned in our math sessions will add for opportunities to explore real world experiences!

Opportunity Knocks (extra learning opportunities) are a hit! Kudos to the kiddos that opted to take part in this optional opportunity! Please remember that these activities are completely OPTIONAL. Students can access these opportunities on our Reach for the Stars Google Site!

Students who complete THREE opportunity knocks activities by Friday, will have the chance to enter my class prize bin! If your child is looking for something fun to do this weekend, these just may be the answer you're looking for!
