REPORT CARDS AND UPDATES
Hello North Crawford Middle and High School Parents,
I hope all of you are staying healthy and finding ways to bond with your children and help them process all of the challenges that we are all juggling during this pandemic. I hope that one thing we can learn from all of this is the importance of building a relationship between staff and parents in order to give our students the greatest chance for success. I appreciate what all of you are doing to help educate your children during the past few weeks and the weeks to come. We are all learning to adjust to what this new environment looks like and I appreciate your patience during the age of COVID-19. I send one of these newsletters weekly to my staff and I am going to be more conscious of sending these to parents during this pandemic and into the future when we return back to school inside the building.
We aren't planning on mailing out report cards for the 3rd quarter but students and parents can access report cards through family and student access on skyward. Once in skyward by clicking on the portfolio tab on the left hand side you will be given the option to view report card and/or transcript. Students and Parents can then select which document they would like to view. Just a reminder that we will be going to pass/fail grades for the semester due to the numerous situations that families are having to contend with. This is a hard time for everyone and we understand that this is not the same as being in the classroom and we are working hard to try and make this manageable and workable for all of our families.
A few reminders for everyone as we move into the coming weeks of educating our students remotely and changing up our food delivery methods.
1. We will have an extended break from Wednesday, April 8th to Sunday, April 12th. We feel it is important that everyone take a step back from everything and take some time to be with your families and process what we are currently dealing with.
2. A reminder that food after this week will only be delivered once a week. That schedule was put on our website and I wanted to let families know who don't have internet that we will be delivering school work on those once a week deliveries as well.
3. We will be moving toward a virtual education for most of our students on April 13th. You will hear from your individual teachers about what that's going to look like for individual classes. I will send another one of these reports next week outlining some further clarification of guidelines of what virtual education will look like. We are still waiting on the arrival of hotspots and we will ship those out to families as soon as they arrive at school. Those families that don't have internet will continue to receive their work through our deliveries once a week.
4. I have decided to send out the technology survey after we get through the week of April 13th. This will give you some more insight into what challenges you are having and allow us to keep in contact and provide assistance to students and/or families that are struggling. Please don't hesitate to reach out to teachers or administration if you are experiencing difficulties already and we will try and work through challenges together.
5. Please remember to reach out to teachers with questions or clarifications that you need when those concerns arise. Teachers are here to help and want to see your sons and daughters succeed. The communication between families and teachers is vital and we hope to increase the opportunities for those communications moving forward.
6. If you are having technical difficulties please reach out to your children's teacher for clarification first. For google password resets, please contact Donna Starkey, dstarkey@ncrawford.k12.wi.us, or 608-735-7225 during office hours and leave your contact information.
7. Many teachers will be using video teleconferencing (Zoom, Google Meet) for instruction and/or office hours, if you don't consent to your child using teleconferencing please let your child's teacher and/or administration know.
8. The Department of Public Instruction's recommendations for the amount of time Middle and High School students should spend on school work every day while at home is 3 - 4.5 hours. We of course understand that there are circumstances that may prevent this from happening at some homes and we are understanding of challenges that will look different in every home. We are asking that everyone try their best and keep progressing and learning, that is the most important thing.
9. Please continue to practice social distancing and hand washing practices that will stunt the spread of COVID-19. Let's try and do all we can to prevent the spread of this in our community.
10. Parents please take a moment to fill out this survey for our backpack program that may be able to provide your family additional resources during this challenging time.
11. If there are other needs that you have don't hesitate to reach out to our counselor and myself so we can hopefully provide you with resources and answers to the best of our ability.
