3 Term Contingency Model (ABC)
provides framework for all behavioral interventions
What does the ABC stand for?
A-antecedent: an event happening prior to a behavior that sets the stage for behaviors (the stimulus)
B-behavior: the concerning behavior (the response)
C-consequence: event(s) following the behavior and determine if the behavior will continue (the reinforcement)
The antecedent AND consequence affect the behavior performed
- EX: Antecedent---> Behavior <---Consequence
We must understand how the antecedent affects behavior and see how we can modify this to increase desired behavior. This might include changing classroom rules and procedures.
For example.....
It is important for teachers to use collected data and background knowledge on the student. By breaking down the data, teachers can find a proper intervention for undesired behaviors.
