Chapman Update
Good evening Chapman Families!
Thank you to the PTO for all of their hard work with the Secret Santa Shop and for sponsoring our Anti- Bullying assembly with the Detroit Lions! What an amazing week for our kids!
Chapman also would like to help assist some of our families in need this holiday season. If you are able and willing to help, there will be a "Giving Tree" in the front of the building by the office. Ornaments with items needed will be hanging on the tree. Come grab an ornament and purchase a gift. Return the wrapped gift to Chapman by December 14th and we will distribute to the families. Thank you in advance for helping others in the school community.
I am out for a medical procedure the last week before break. Mr. Moll will step in for me in my absence this week. I am disappointed that I have to miss this week before the holiday break. I will still be available by email during my recovery if you need anything. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
Chapman's Holiday Concert is THIS TUESDAY. We are so excited to share this event with all of our families at Carlson High School's auditorium on Tuesday, December 11th. Please see the attached letter below for more information. We will be selling carnations at the concert to help us support needy families during the holidays. See the attached flyer for more information.
This week during our kindness challenge month, we will be recognizing students by giving them tickets when we see them achieving the goals of the day. We will collect the tickets and at the end of the week will have a drawing. One lucky winner will be awarded a night of fun with the Rockwood Police Department on December 19th. The lucky student (with a parent) will get to ride in a squad car and be the judge for the best holiday light show in Rockwood.
The PTO sponsored reward Limo Ride from the Otis Spunkmeyer fundraiser is this Wednesday, December 12th. We also have our PTO Fundraiser at BJ's on Thursday evening. See the attached flyer below.
Chapman has been working on writing at all levels with students. We are using a common language with students so as they move through the grades, the vocabulary is the same. Ask your child about our RACES strategy and how they are using it in their classes (Not just during Writing Block!). Want a cheat sheet? :) Here you go:
R- Restate the Question
A- Answer the Question
C- Cite the Evidence
E- Explain
S- Summarize
December food menu is attached at the bottom of the newsletter!
* Please make sure that all students have coats (Boots and Snow pants too!) when they come to school! We are in that transition of cold weather and I would hate to have students miss a needed recess because they are not dressed appropriately. If your child is in need of a coat, please contact me and I will make sure that they have one. It is also a good idea to pack extra socks and an extra set of clothes in backpacks in case students get wet playing in the snow.

Please be patient and pull as far forward as possible in the carpool line. BOTH doors are open for students to enter the building. Please remember for your safety and the safety of the students to please only get out on the curb side of the car. If you have to get out of the car for any reason please park in the parking lot to do so. Please stay in line in carpool and do not cut around. This is for the safety of the families that are crossing the carpool lane. I appreciate all the great work and how smoothly the morning drop off procedures are going! Well done!
* Watchdogs are up and running! If you would like to volunteer to be a Watchdog, please go to this link to sign up! Thank you in advance to all of our Watchdogs!

* It is that time a year where we have to be very careful about sending our students to school when they are not feeling well. Remember that students should be fever free for at least 24 hours before returning to school. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us and we can help in making a decision.
* Please like our Facebook page Chapman Elementary (SEARCH FOR @GSDChapman on Facebook or follow this link https://www.facebook.com/pg/GSDChapman/services/?ref=page_internal ) and follow us on Twitter @guizzettiland #GSDChapman. This is a great way to stay informed of school happenings throughout the year.
