Where the Adventure Begins...
HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Happy Friday, ECS Families! We had so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss this week! Thank you to those that joined in the fun!!
We often encourage parents to read nightly with your children and have shared many of those benefits. This sweet mom took us up on it and tried it with her little one. Check out her unsolicited testimony letting us know how it has gone. Thank you, Mrs. Gaines, for letting us share your email!
Dear Mrs. Jenkins,
On behalf of the Gaines family I’d like to extend my gratitude for the early childhood school library "Read with Me" program. I never thought that fifteen minutes of reading nightly would bring our family closer together and provide such quality time with our son Gunner. Sometimes fifteen minutes turn into thirty, but those are happy thirty minutes in which we read and discuss various books as well as have a wonderful time together as a family. After the first several weeks we didn't notice how simple bed-time reading transformed into an evening ritual. Now our son won’t to go to bed before reading several bedtime stories. We let him pick three books or stories every night, and he loves it. I admit there are some evenings when mommy and daddy are tired and ready to skip reading time; however, our little guy is always ready with his books. It’s hard to say no to a sweet, little phrase "please can you read me tonight".
Thank you again for our fifteen minutes of happiness and much more!
Sincerely,
Yuliya Gaines
If this doesn't inspire you to give it a go, I'm not sure what will! Reading just 15 minutes with your child every night will be life-changing for your child AND for you! Once you do, we'd love to hear from you too!
Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us every day! They are an absolute joy and make us love what we do! Have a wonderful weekend!

Fun Run Cancelled
Dear ECS Families,
Due to weather conditions next week, we are cancelling our ECS Fun Run that was scheduled for Tuesday, March 5th. We would love all of you to continue to log any distance you and your family walk or run so we can still work on being more active and help Mr. Jones get to Boston to run the marathon! Feel free to send in your February slips next week and get started logging those miles on your March slip. Thank you for your understanding!
Got a Sickie?!
If your child is not well- please keep them home.
Please be specific when reporting your child’s absence. Don’t say sick or ill, please give details such as : fever, Flu, cough and cold, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.
It makes it so much easier to know when we need to deep clean classrooms when parents give details regarding absences.
ECS Parent's Place
I love to make sure you this easy way to ask questions, share suggestions, and let us know what we're doing well!
Here is the link to the ECS Parent Place! It's an online "bulletin board" where you can post anything. I'll also post my responses. You can post or just pop in to see what other's are posting!

The Counselor Corner
When I sit down to speak with parents about concerns the topic I hear most often is trouble with discipline and behavior. It’s important to discuss what discipline strategies have been practiced and which ones have been successful. Often, redirection, natural consequences, and reward systems work. Helping families to communicate about feelings and helping children feel understood also provides the desired behavior.
Parenting and child-rearing is about preparing children for the real world. In Blessings of a Skinned Knee by Wendy Mogul, Ph.D., the author points out raising children is not about helping them to feel good in life; it’s raising them to make good decisions. Kids who grow up to be successful people go through personal failures, mistakes, and persevere. They gain success because others were there to encourage and guide them to continue to work hard. If you feel that your child is guiding you to make changes in your life and give in to their wants often, it may be a good time to reflect on what your goals are as a family and what you want for your children in the future. Giving in to immediate wants will likely not support their desire to reach long term goals in the future.
