Here's what's happening in MS this week!

Dear parents,
Mark your calendars for parent teacher conferences this Thursday and Friday.
ENGLISH
6th Grade: Students will be required to write a persuasive paragraph with evidence to support their debatable claim. We are just starting and they will be expected to finish before Thanksgiving. Students will also have their spelling test Friday morning. Students have also started using an online program called No Red Ink. Right now they are working on Active versus Passive voice. They can also now access many assignments through Google Classroom.
7th Grade: We are beginning our second writing piece, focusing on persuasive paragraphs where the students will make a debatable claim and support it with facts and anecdotal evidence. Students will have their spelling test on Thursday. Students have also started using an online program called No Red Ink. Right now they are working on Active versus Passive voice. SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: As part of our exploration of Central America, we have been learning about the Maya civilization. Students are working on a research presentation or project on an aspect of Mayan culture. These projects will be due at the end of class on Wednesday November 6th. We are also going to finish watching The Road to El Dorado which we started on Halloween.

8th Grade: This week we had a little fun and did a reader’s theatre on the Declaration. We had the students take parts and read a modern day story of the making of the Declaration of Independence. Ask your student which person they were and see if they remember. Some were part of the Congress and got to shout things out during the “meetings” that took place.
MATH
6th Grade: We have been learning all about percents and especially how we use percents in real life applications. Mid week we will have a quiz covering our percent lessons. Keep working on iReady!
7th Grade: We have been dividing and multiplying rational numbers, rational numbers include fractions and decimals. Mid week we will have a quiz covering our lessons. Keep working on iReady!
8th Grade: Functions, functions, functions! We have been learning the basics of functions and reviewing how to graph coordinate pairs. Mid week we will have a quiz covering our lessons. Keep working on iReady!
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We will be discussing the benefits we receive from our ecosystems this week. We also have Kids in the Kitchen with Mrs. Brown on Tuesday.
7th Grade: We have been exploring physical properties such as mass, volume, weight, and density. Students have been using the tools in labs (scales, graduated cylinders, etc.) to measure these physical properties. Also, the students have an essay sponsored by the Antrim Conservation District due this Friday, November 8th. This essay is both an assignment for classroom points and is eligible to win a cash prize of $350 if there essay is chosen as the best in their age category! Please ask and encourage your students to do their best.

ART
6th Grade: We Finished our unit on shading and different values of gray. Next week we will be working on color unit, practicing mixing and making colors.
PE
7th Grade: What a great start in 7th grade PE. I appreciate the display of sportsmanship, positive interaction, and level of participation.
This week students will work on defending space and creating space within the context of invasion games. Students will also work on throwing and catching skills. We will continue to focus on developing/improving cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility (health related physical fitness).
