Glennwood Elementary ~ Where Learning Takes Flight

Holly Brookins, PhD, Principal ~ Jill Tolsma, Instructional Coach Karen Hearn, School Manager

Hello Glennwood Families!

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break! We have had a great week of learning here at Glennwood this week.

Your child’s winter report card will be available to view in the Parent Portal on Thursday, March 3rd. Please log into the parent portal to access your student’s report card. You may access the directions here or watch this video. If you need assistance with your login information for the Parent Portal, please contact our School Manager, Karen Hearn (khearn@csdecatur.net).

City Schools of Decatur uses standards-based reporting to report K-2 student progress. In standards-based grading, reporting is based upon the progress toward mastery of the standards in each academic domain.

The report card is issued three times per year. The winter report card reports progress for terms 3 and 4. The report card includes meaningful comments from teachers, assessment on the domains, and feedback on EL Education's Habits of Scholarship and work habits. Please see the district schedule for reporting progress below.

If you have any questions regarding report cards or the reporting process, please reach out to your child's teacher or our instructional coach, Ms. Tolsma (jtolsma@csdecatur.net).

Warmest regards,

Dr. Holly Brookins

Principal

Lunch N' Learn: How to Talk with Kids About Race on March 10

I plan on facilitating a Lunch N’ Learn on the topic of How to Talk with Kids About Race on Thursday, March 10th from 11:30am - 12:15pm. Our purpose in this work is to draw upon the collective strength and wisdom of the group. During this Lunch N’ Learn, our goal will be to listen to each other, seek to understand, and pool our collective funds of knowledge. I humbly ask for you to share your experiences on this topic by answering a couple short questions. There will also be an opportunity for people to share their experiences during the Lunch N’ Learn. Additionally, if you have separate resources that you would like to share, please email me at jblase@csdecatur.net.

Georgia Walk & Roll to School Day – NEXT Friday, March 4

After a long winter hiatus, Walk and Roll is BACK, and it’s brought the warmer weather with it! Please join us on your feet, your bike, or your scooter (don’t forget those helmets!), and let’s show CSD how Eagles SOAR! Students who walk, bike or scoot will continue to enter at their grade-specific doors, where they will be counted, using our traditional marbles, by their staff door monitors. We will have incentives for participating this month! Don’t forget your masks on campus! And, each marble will still count towards students earning extra school-wide recess, with announcements made at virtual Community Circle! For additional details and a full Walk & Roll schedule for the year, please visit the Glennwood website.

*Walking School Buses are on hold (due to Covid) until further notice*
