A Note From Mr. DeFoor

Parents, we would like to thank you for the hard work and dedication that you are investing in your child's education each day. In order to continue to make our processes and daily routines more functional and safe for all of our students, I ask that you please be mindful of the following:

Morning Drop Off: When dropping students off in the morning, please do not stop in front of the cafeteria doors. In order to ensure that traffic is flowing quickly, we ask that you move to the furthest available cone and let your child off there. If you need to assist your child in getting out of the car, we ask that you pull up to the flag pole to do so.

Attendance: As we move into the cooler weather and holiday season, we want to remind our families that attendance is the first step to a successful academic experience. We ask that you help us reinforce being a life long learner, by showing and talking to your children about why going to school is important. We also ask that you do everything in your power to make sure that they are here regularly. For instance, when making appointments, please try to do so toward the end of the day or after school. Or, before going to bed at night, have backpacks ready and clothes picked out to lessen the demands of the morning routine so that your child can be here on time. Remember, time out of the classroom means that your child is missing out on valuable learning opportunities. Thank you for your cooperation.

Healthy Choices Calendars

We are encouraging our whole school to be aware and make healthier choices. No matter how big or small or whether the choices deal with eating, sleeping, exercising, stress, etc. We want everyone to understand that the benefits of healthy choices help create a healthier person. One way to make healthier students is to help each become aware of the choices they make. Examples: watch TV or ride my bike, play video game or play outside, eat a candy bar for a snack or have some grapes, leave shoes in floor or walk and put away, have someone else bring me my backpack or walk over and get it. It all adds up.

Each month your child will bring home a “Healthy Choices” calendar to encourage them to make healthier choices. Each day that your child eats 5 fruits and/or vegetables, they get to draw a circle-O on that day. Each day that your child plays or exercises for a total of 30 min or more outside of school, they get to place a check mark-√ on that day. At the end of each day, your child could have one symbol or both. At the end of the month, your child can tally up how many times they made a healthy choice of eating better and moving around, have a grown up sign it and return to school. If your child has 20 or more tallies for fruits & veggies, they will

receive a fruit charm. If your child has 20 or more tallies for being active, they will receive a foot charm. Each child that participates will receive a chain necklace to add charms to when they turn in their 1st calendar.
