Giving Thanks!

Dear St. Matthew families and supporters,

We hope this finds you refreshed after a relaxing Thanksgiving break. Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday- no stress of buying gifts; just enjoying company with friends and family.

Even though we had a short month at school, it was filled with great faith forming activities and our students are working hard in the classroom as well.

As we prepare for the coming of Jesus during this Advent season, may we always feel God's love and spread it to all we see, even in the most everyday activities.

Angie Palmer

Vocations Awareness Week

Big picture

The week of Nov. 8 all St. Matthew students recognized Vocations week. Each day a video was shared with each class with a Prayer and reflection for Vocations. Each day classrooms were asked to pray throughout the day for vocations. They documented their prayers on these paper churches and posted them in the commons to display all the prayers we've lifted up for all vocations.

College and Career Education

Middle School students spent the day learning about college prep and career options. They started the day at Bellevue University learning about their programs. They ended the day touring OBI Advertising and Marketing office learning about the career opportunities in this industry. This was done as part of the standards in career education required of our schools for accreditation. Thank you Bellevue University and OBI for your hospitality.

The sixth grade team hosted an exhibition game with Principal Palmer's daughter's team from St. Vincent. Many fans came out to support this fun event!

Spending our Monthly Time with Jesus in Adoration

K-8th grades spent some quality time with Jesus in our sanctuary. Deacon Mark White led the exposition, and Mrs. Palmer guided the students through a meditation/reflection on the gospel of Luke. Students used their notebooks to draw pictures of them with Jesus playing, or writing about how they will show God's love in the world. At the end Deacon Mark White closed with the reposition of Our Lord back into the tabernacle. To know Him, we need to spend time with our friend Jesus. What a special gift to have this time with our Lord.

Celebrating our Veterans

Nov. 11 was a special day for our community. We honored our Veterans with a special All School Mass followed by a video and cookie reception.

We love all our Veterans who have served our country in such a special way.

Thanksgiving Feast

After a year without our annual celebration, our Thanksgiving feast was BACK! Thanks to all of our families for donating desserts and our volunteers that helped set up, serve, and clean up.

We loved spending the time together as a community. We also had some Thanksgiving entertainment. Click below!

Catholic Questions (and answers)

What can I do to help my prayer life?

Getting into a routine is probably the first thing that will help.

There are simple ways to strengthen your prayer life. 1. As you awake, offer a prayer. 2. When you go to bed, offer a prayer. 3. When you are in the car, turn off the radio and spend time in prayer.

There are also apps to help guide through the prayer process. 1. Hallow 2. Click to Pray 3. Rosary App 4.Divine Mercy Chaplet App

Hope that some of these will be useful as we refresh our spiritual life this Advent and into the rest of the Liturgical year!
