Welcome Mr. Mussman!
We'd like to welcome a new student teacher, Mr. Jake Mussman to the LVMS crew. He will be working with Mrs. Dement's math classes primarily, as well as the rest of the math department.
He originally got his degree in Finance from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and also has his masters from the University of Texas in Speech Pathology. For the last five years, he has been a substitute teacher in Hawaii, ranging from Pre K to High School Spanish. During that time, he was a long term sub in Middle School math, and found that to be the most rewarding. He's looking forward to make this career transition near his family in Austin - welcome Mr. Mussman!
Fundraiser
This year has been tough on everyone, and the last thing I wanted to do was a fundraiser because 1) It's right after the holidays 2) We've been pulled and stretched in every direction and 3) Personally, I try to avoid fundraisers as much as possible.
However, without the many activities we do throughout the year, fundraising is something that would help tremendously to better fund student/teacher activities. So when I talked to the School Funding Group, I felt like it was a great compromise. All we are asking for is a minimum of a $20 dollar donation, and for that donation, you will receive numerous discounts off brand name items like Amazon, Home Depot, Nike and Oakley. These discounts can far outweigh the cost of your donation. The proceeds of this fundraiser will help fund :
- Culinary Arts
- Teacher Training
- Teacher Supplies
- Student Incentives
- Technology for the classroom
- UIL and OAP Supplies
- School Improvement

C Day
C Days have evolved into a great resource for us, and we have developed some very effective strategies to help our students. RSVP's for Wednesday are no longer required, because we check in the students when they get here. If your student is struggling in a class, or needs extra help, we would love to help them on C Days.

Lady Vikings Split With Llano
7th Gold: After an amazing first half of basketball with a 10-6 score, the girls struggled to match the same intensity into the 2nd half and came up short against Llano 21-6. Alison Shipp, Taylor McCowen, and Hailey Wray, played big minutes as this team continues to see huge improvements on offense and defense. We are extremely excited about these last 2 home games as the girls have started to gel and grow as a unit.
7 Blue:
The 7th grade girls came up short against Llano Thursday evening, however, they did not fall short of effort. We have struggled with just having time to gain experience this season. This was their first game back from an extended break and they played hard but just couldn’t get points on the board. Final score was 3-27. With some recent team changes we are having to learn again a new line up and I am confident they will show improvements when we have more practices under our belt and find our new groove! Credit for the 3 points goes to Carli Parker and our leader in steals was Macy Thompson! Also contributing to the team were Ariel Canion, Hannah Hood, Marlie Hawkins, and Tori Lee.
8 Blue:
Our 8th grade girls brought home the win against Llano with a whopping score of 4-3 but we will take it! I will say that this group is known for nail biting competitions! They’ve had some line up changes which has knocked them down to only 5 players for the next few weeks so they really had to step it up! We are going to focus on finding our rhythm with who we have over the next few weeks in hopes that we can go into our next competition more confident. Our scorers were Claire Brumfield and Bella Adams. Ava Ferguson led in steals and assists. Also contributing to the team were Lily Medina and Josceline Topete.
8 Gold
Our 8th Grade A team won this past week vs. Llano 23-21. The game was very intense and came down to the wire! The Lady Vikings were outnumbered by the Llano squad but were able to overcome it by their toughness and determination to win. The ladies are going to continue to work hard and get better every week. Amelia Robinson and Shea Yeary led the team in scoring. Madison Kassell led the team in defense with numerous steals and her hustle up and down the court helped propel them to victory!

Help Keep Us Finish Basketball Season!
We knew basketball was going to be a challenge, but we do want to finish the season strong. As a reminder, for us to continue to play sports, we all have to do our part. I wanted to share the UIL guidelines as it pertains to spectators:
Masks!!
- Spectators, audiences, fans and media are required to wear face coverings as described in Executive Order GA-29.
- Groups should maintain at least six feet of distance from other groups at all times, including the process of admission and seating. A group is defined as no more than 10 people including the members of the household and those persons who traveled together to the facility.
UIL is very serious about these guidelines, and if we want to continue to play sports this year, we must take these to heart. Photos from different schools not following this guidance have already been circulating, which puts all of our programs at risk.
Please make sure to wear a mask at all times and respect social distancing.
