Character Strength: SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE

You are aware of other people’s thoughts and feelings. You understand why they do things.

Social intelligence is a person’s ability to understand and manage interpersonal relationships. Distinct from a person’s IQ or “book smarts”, it includes an individuals ability to understand and act on the feelings, thoughts, and behavior of others. It involves emotional intelligence and self- awareness. Individuals with this trait are often described as aware, empathetic, understanding, or insightful.

Books and Beyond Update

Kindergarten and 1st grade parents,

Give yourselves a round of applause! Thank you parents for your time and efforts helping your kiddos record and submit sheets. Also, big praise to your kiddos for their interest and excitement to read. Combined for the kindergarten and 1st grade classes, we have submitted 827 sheets for the program from September- December. Keep up the great work!

Don’t forget you can access a new reading sheet at: https://www.wcpss.net/domain/7525. By the end of the month your child will bring home a new sheet and an update sheet to let you know how many sheets have been submitted through December 31,2018. You can also ask for a copy when visiting the office or for the first graders, your child can submit his/her reading homework log to the teacher to count as a sheet submitted for Books and Beyond.

Here is a recap of our winning classes:

September winners: Murphy and Castaneda

October winners: Wohlschlaeger and Daniel

November winners: Medwar and Hughes

December winners: Murphy and Deaton

At the end of year celebration, your child will be recognized for his/her work reading in the Books and Beyond program.

On Wednesday, February 27th NC State’s Student Engineer Ambassadors will be at Penny Road to bring us a Family Stem Night. The event will be from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Be on the lookout for a volunteer sign up because we will need parents to help with crowd control. There will be a brief General PTA meeting beforehand at 5:30 pm in the Creative Commons.

Can you believe that Penny Road's famous Spring Carnival is just around the corner? We are so excited to bring back our silent auction this year - bigger and better than ever! We are currently busy soliciting big ticket items, but we need your support. If you have a beach house (or any rental connections), new electronic items, or if you own a business and could help us out, it would be greatly appreciated. All donations are tax deductible. Have a donation or need more information? Please contact Lindsay Tremelling at ltremelling83@gmail.com. Thank you!!!

Big picture

MORE Homework Resources

Just a reminder that our Homework Resources for Parents page is growing! We now have ELA resources for Grade 3 through 5 and Math Resources for Grades 6 through 8 in both English and Spanish! This is a great way to engage families on how to have conversations with their child around their learning. You can find it by going to Parents, then Homework Resources in the drop down, on either the district site or on our school homepage.
