School Community Newsletter 10/2/2020
Dear Thomas Middle School Community,
As we enter the STEP 3/Hybrid model, we now know that about 80% of the Thomas Middle School students will be returning to the building and 20% will remain remote learners. With this, everyone’s cooperation, patience, and understanding are more important than ever. Our priorities remain focused on protecting everyone’s health and safety, caring for the well-being of one another, and providing meaningful learning opportunities for our students. We view this as entering into a partnership with the students, each of your families, and all of our staff. We are all in this together! We must work collaboratively to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being in order to provide consistent learning opportunities for our students remotely and in-person.
We encourage each family to review the District 25 STEP 3 document linked here which contains 23 pages of details on how things will work in the days ahead.
We also recommend that all students and parents read the Thomas Hybrid Procedures. In this document, you will find school procedures for students and families particular to Thomas Middle School. Please note that TMS procedures are also based on the guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, Illinois State Board of Education, and our school district. We realize this is a lot of information to process, and there will be several adjustments that we all need to make. However, we must do these things in the name of safety. We are confident that, with your support, together we can strengthen our students’ resilience and help them successfully adapt to this different way of being in school.
Please take some time to familiarize your child(ren) with these procedures. We will share this information in the daily announcements for students to help them get a feel for what it will look and feel like during our hybrid model. Since this is a new way of school for all of us, these procedures may be adjusted as we learn from experience and progress through the hybrid school year. We will keep this document updated and reach out to you with any updates. At TMS, we are lifelong learners, so your questions and feedback continue to be welcomed and appreciated. Please feel free to reach out anytime.
We invite all students and families to attend a virtual question and answer webinar with the TMS administrators on Monday, October 5th from 6-6:45 PM. No worries if you are unable to attend, this event will be recorded and shared as well. In addition, please use the link below to share any questions you would like us to address.
