Be in the Know
Week August 24th - August 28th
It's a Wrap...Week 1 is in the Virtual History Books
Our faculty and staff is collaborating and working with parents to get helpful resources to allow online learning to run smoothly. Let your scholar's teacher know if you need assistance with technology, applications or just how to make certain tasks on your device work smoothly. We have a Digital Learning Coach and an amazing faculty and staff ready to assist when you need it!
RESCHEDULED SCHOLAR RESOURCE DISTRIBUTION!
On Monday, Aug 31st, from 4:30 pm until 6:30 pm, we will be distributing "kits" of supplies for all of our scholars to assist them with basic needs to help them at home (pencils, paper, colors, glue, markers etc...). In addition, scholars in grades PK - 2 will receive a resource binder to assist them with the learning needed in their respective grade levels. Please make plans to join us next Monday from 4:30 until 6:30. Distribution will be held in our back parking lot by the cafeteria.
Attendance Matters So Make Sure Your Student is Marked Present
With online learning, we know you have some questions about attendance and how to ensure your scholar is marked present for the day. Here is what families need to know:
Log in and attend class in real-time with your teacher during the morning and the afternoon. This is what we call during the Synchronous learning time.
If you were unable to attend a session because of a technology issue, don’t panic. Scholars attending either the morning or afternoon session will be counted present for the day. We know that life happens and so do technical difficulties.
We know some families may have trouble following the daily schedule for a variety of reasons, including parents’ work schedules, power outages, technological problems and/or distractions at home.
If your scholar for one reason or another misses both the morning and afternoon synchronous (live) instruction with his or her teacher(s), he or she can still make up the missed work by logging into Schoology and completing the day’s assignments including the Exit Ticket provided. In order for that learning to count, scholars must complete this before 11:59 p.m. each day to be counted present.
In spite of the challenges of online learning, attendance is still being tracked and still counts. Attendance Matters...Your Scholar Matters..., and we want our scholars in class and learning every day, 100 percent of the time. At a minimum, the state standards require scholars to attend school at least 90 percent of the time the class is in session to receive credit.
If your family is struggling with attendance, please let us know now so we can help!
How to Access Schoology
The only way for scholars and parents to access Schoology is to log into the mySringISD portal from the district’s website using their district-issued username and password and then clicking on the Schoology icon.
Families who have been trying to log in through the Schoology mobile app or through the Schoology website will be unable to do so because the district is using single sign on, which makes it easier to access all instructional resources.
We know some parents and scholars downloaded the Schoology mobile app in the spring but we would urge everyone to delete that from your phone and log into the portal directly from the district website.
Virtual Volunteer Opportunities for Families
The Spring ISD Family Engagement Department encourages families and caregivers to play an active role in their children’s education. This year, we are encouraging families to stay actively engaged by volunteering in our schools virtually. Below are sample virtual volunteer opportunities. Please complete the form to notify our parent empowerment liaison of your interest in virtually volunteering.
Parent-to-parent communication: Campus parent leaders can create a phone bank to check in on and support other parents who are part of their school’s parent organization.
Parent tutors: Parents who are comfortable with technology can assist other parents and students with navigating Spring ISD’s online support tools as well as assist students with homework.
Self-care support: Parents can support other parents’ self-care by hosting virtual leisure classes for parents. Wind down by participating in sewing classes, yoga, painting, fitness, etc. This encourages self-care and socialization with other parents.
Literacy support: Parents can support literacy by serving as the surprise guest reader of the week and reading stories to students in their virtual classroom.
Virtual parent organization support: Parents can participate in virtual PTA/PTO/booster club meetings and activities.
Virtual Career Day: Parents can participate in a virtual classroom and share their experiences in their chosen profession. This will help students see the connection between learning now and their future careers.
Virtual College Day: Parents can participate in a virtual classroom and share their college experiences with students.

Ms. Olabarrieta's Counselor's Corner
Spring ISD has kicked off the 2020-21 academic year virtually as we work to keep our scholars and staff safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Learning from home can pose challenges for the entire family, especially as parents juggle work responsibilities and class schedules for multiple children who all need to be online. There’s no magic solution but click the link for some tips and strategies to help create a calm and positive environment for everyone.
Low-Cost Internet Options for Eligible Families
With all students learning remotely from the start of school on Aug. 17 until at least Sept. 11, some of our families are wondering whether they have the internet bandwidth to support online coursework during Empowered Learning At-Home.
Internet connectivity is an important consideration for students learning at home, and the district is working to provide multiple supports to help our families, including arranging mobile hotspots and boosting campus internet so that the district’s Wi-Fi network is accessible from school parking lots. However, there are also special offers on low-cost internet that qualifying families may want to consider.
Specifically, both Comcast Internet Essentials and Access from AT&T offer home internet service for around $10 a month. These specially priced plans require an application, and are designed to assist families who might also qualify for public assistance programs such as the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP and SSI.
Helpful Tips & Online Etiquette
Help us make the online learning a good experience for all by...
1. Making sure your scholar stays logged in and online until the teacher dismisses them
2. Making sure your scholar's work station is away from traffic and noise in the home
3. Making sure your scholar has everything he or she needs close at hand
4. Remembering to have your scholar ready to learn and in class on time
5. Asking older siblings and relatives not to use profane words in the background
