A GREAT BIG THANKS TO OUR HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION!!!!!
Thanks to our Home and School Association and to all of you for your support of the many activities we have throughout the year; we were able to make some nice purchases. This support helped us to purchase 4 Smart Boards for the classroom, 11 Document Cameras for our teachers, Scholastic news for our students, Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr. for your children to use at home and at school, and some large Bulletin Boards for the hallways. We are so fortunate to have such caring members of our Kutz Community! You really do make a difference!
The new kutz website is now up and running.....
KUTZ DANCE-A-THON RAISES $6,298.83
On Friday, May 3, Kutz Elementary School students danced to save Kids’ Castle! During the Dance-A-Thon, students danced in grade level groups for 30 minutes. Afterwards, they collected donations from sponsors based on how many minutes they danced. Students were very excited to dance to their most requested songs, Gangnam Style and the Harlem Shake. Sophia Evangelista, a fourth grader, stated that she loved dancing with her friends and raising money for her favorite place. Together, our Kutz Cougars raised over $6000 to help save Kids’ Castle! Special thanks goes to April Masterson, the Kids’ Castle Parent Committee representative, the Kutz teachers for their support, and the students who danced for a cause.
New Changes for Next Year
Get ready folks! I know change is difficult but sometimes we just have to shake things up! I want to prepare you for these changes so let me share the changes and the rationale behind them.
1. We are going to eliminate birthday treats such as donuts, cupcakes, pretzels and food in general.
RATIONALE - The FDA Guidelines are encouraging schools to be more stringent in their offerings and provide healthier alternatives.
Not all children have someone who can bring in sweet treats on their birthday.
Sometimes a class will receive 2 or 3 treats on the same day or in the same week.
Students who have restrictive diets for medical reasons often have a hard time overcoming the temptation with the birthday treat offered. We want to eliminate that temptation.
Celebrating everyone's birthday takes precious time off the schedule and takes us away from our basic focus - learning.
Our school goal is Healthier Choices - Focus on Nutrition. We have to encourage it and donuts and cupcakes are not one of the four essential food groups! I know I was surprised to find that out too!
Please know that if you bring sweet treats, pretzels, donuts, etc. to school for a birthday celebration -they will be confiscated by the office!!!.................just kidding - you will have to take them home with you.
Thanks for your help and support with this.
2. Next year we will have recess BEFORE lunch.
RATIONALE - Research shows that students who attend recess before lunch - have better appetites and make better food choices. Also, there are less peer problems as the students have time to settle differences and "break bread" after the intensity of recess. So please remember to send your child in with hand sanitizer for washing before lunch. Thanks!

A Poem written by Naval Veteran Lawrence Kraemer and Army Veteran Michael McGlynn
The Runner
I'm here for you in Doylestown to pay homage to your name.
I see Gold Star Families crying, their pride can't ease the pain.
The sun is now rising over the horizon; a new day has begun.
One that will be filled with promise as you and I begin to run.
I'll run with you my fallen comrades with others from all around.
To HONOR and REMEMBER your sacrifice was so profound.
It's a long journey, yet there will be a tribute in every stride.
For you will be my inspiration as your spirit runs by my side.
Traveling down the Tribute Trail I can hear your family's cheers.
They're for you my fallen comrades and so are all their tears.
Passing by a grateful nation, I see their pride begin to swell.
Reaffirming my belief the American Spirit is alive and well.
Farewell my fallen comrades, you were beside me from the start.
Your memories are in my thoughts, your sacrifice in my heart.
I'm humbled by your presence and honored to be here too.
Next year I'll be back in Doylestown to run again with you.
DR. GREEN VISITS OUR STUDENTS AT IRUN4LIFE
Dr. Green spoke to our group about how he trained for his marathon and brought his medal for the kids to see. He also stayed for our session and ran with everyone. We were glad we had the opportunity for him to see how many parents and teachers come out each week and support our program. The message he shared with us is, persistence is key to reach your goals and anything is possible if you work at it.
