Week 7

With only four days this week, things flew by fast! We had another wonderful performance form the WEHS Rewind Fairies. Students got a quick lesson on bullying and how to make better choices and how to treat one another. Don't forget to sign up for parent conferences. See the link below to sign up and also confirm or make changes if need be.

Reading

This week students read an expository story called Here's My Dollar. They learned that expository, or non fiction, stories contain examples and details and are written to inform readers about a topic. We also focused on an authors purpose for writing. Writers write to persuade, inform, or entertain. Students are also continuing to work with context clues and learning to use them to help with identifying unknown words to help them grow their vocabulary this year. We worked with the following words: tour, volunteer, slogan, and deserve.

This week we also took our unit 1 ELAR test. Students worked super hard and took their time to read for understanding and locate answers within the story. Scores will come home on a data sheet, so be on a look out for this.

Next week, we will read Home Grown Butterflies. Because each student has a login with their information in their planner, they can access their reading textbook at home. They can read aloud the story, or have it read to them. This is a great way to review each week before our Friday comprehension test.

Social Studies

We have begun unit 4 and students have the new vocabulary page in their plastic sleeve in their Dodd folders. The main topic for this unit is physical changes to communities. Most of the changes to be discussed are human made changes.
