Three are dead. I am Number Four, I am next.

Number Four is no ordinary boy. He might look like an average high schooler in 9th grade, but really he is an alien sent from the planet Lorien. Numbers One -Nine came to Earth with nine Garde (guardians), one with each number. They came to Earth because other aliens called Mogadorians took over their planet, and now the Mogadorians are out to kill the Loriens that have gone to Earth, but the Mogadorians have to kill the Numbers in order or else if they kill one out of order, then they will die too. The Numbers can unleash special Legacies (powers) that can help them fight off the Mogadorians and protect themselves. Number Four came to Earth with his Garde Henri. Now the Numbers 1, 2, and 3 are dead. Number Four is next. To stay hidden Number Four and Henri moved to Paradise, Ohio and Number Four changed his name to John Smith and Henri just kept his name and changed his last name. On the first day of school John meets a girl named Sara Hart and makes a friend named Sam Goode. When John starts to hang out and talk a lot to Sara, he starts to crush on her and her old boy friend, Mark James, gets jealous and bullies John. Later on John tells Sam, Sara, and Mark that he is an alien and everything else about him. Soon after telling them the mogadorians find out where John is hiding and try to kill him. Will Number Four (John Smith) be able to survive and fight of the Mogadorians?

In the story the theme is that "when all is dire and bleak, there is always hope". That was said by Henri in the book on page 383. Henri and Number Four were battling the Mogadorians and Number Four thought that they have lost everything and they were going to die. Then Henri said that quote "when all is dire and bleak, there is always hope" and Number Four agreed with it. This type of think happened to me when my aunt had cancer. I thought that she wouldn't make it, but then my grandpa said that there is always hope in times like this. He made me feel better and he was right, we had hope and she got better. I was so happy and after that moment i always remembered that there is always hope, even in the most toughest times.
