Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade
May 17, 2019
A GREAT Week!
Our days together are winding down... Only eight more! We started our 10 day Countdown to Summer Vacation on Thursday. Each day we will celebrate the end of the school year with a fun activity. Today was "Busting Out" day! We packed up at 1:50 and busted out of school for the day and finished by playing together on the playground. It was the perfect end to the week. On Monday, May 20, we will hold a Talent Show in Room 9. If your child likes to perform or show off a skill he/she has, Monday is THEIR day.
Have you heard about Mrs. Greene's Academy Awards? The morning of the last day of school is a fun one in Room 9. I ask the students to dress up (whatever that looks like in your family) and be ready to celebrate with an award ceremony. They will walk the RED CARPET to receive some very deserving awards. I would encourage the students to bring a change of clothes for the rest of the day.
We will start making a 3rd Grade Memory Book next week. As students finish up their Fairy Tales during writing, they will write, draw, color, cut, and add pictures to their Memory Book. It's a fun activity. I hear so many adorable conversations as they look at pictures of our year together.
My weekend is full of baseball and moving! The Greyhound Invitational is this weekend and we are packing and hoping to be out of our house by next weekend. Not sure how it's all going to happen, but I'm crossing my fingers, practicing deep breathing, and trying to focus on making the last 8 days of school the BEST with this wonderful group of kids!
That's all I have for now...
Enjoy your weekend!

Research Club Projects
Room 9 Celebrations
A few student highlights from our week:
- During our movie, I looked over and saw Jayden comforting a friend who was upset.
- After announcing we would be doing a Room 9 Talent Show as one of our Countdown to Summer Vacation activities, a student asked if it's ok if the talent act isn't perfect and there are mistakes. Cort shouts out..."Of course, we are family!" He then proceeds to sing (loudly) the song by the Pointer Sisters - We are Family!!!
- Maddy and Kendall are constantly leaving sweet, positive messages around the classroom.
THERE ARE SO MANY MORE...stay tuned for more next week!
Here is What is Planned for May 20-24
Reading: Research Clubs
The students will present their final Research Club projects. I hope to videotape each of them. If so, I'll link them here.
Writing: Fairy Tales
Fairy Tale due date is Thursday, May 23. I am assessing your child's writing as they work on them. The skills I assess are:
- Writes a piece with an engaging and purposeful lead, transitions, and an effective ending
- Writes a piece to help the reader gain a deeper understanding using text features, feelings, and/or characterization
- Writes a piece using knowledge of word patterns to spell and edit before publication
- Writes a piece applying knowledge of punctuation to sentences that vary in length and style
Science: Simple Machines
We continue to learn about and create simple machines.
Math: Unit 9 Multi-digit Operations
I will hand back the Unit 8 Assessment on Monday, May 20. There probably won't be much homework next week!
