Spring is Here….so are the Allergens!
Seasonal allergies/Hay fever/Seasonal allergic rhinitis, it goes by many names and it is here!
What is the reason for seasonal allergies? – Molds such as trees, grasses, and weeds release their spores to help fertilize other plants. Some people are allergic to these mold spores and their bodies release certain chemicals into their bloodstream to help defend against these “invaders.” The release of chemicals to protect the body results in allergy symptoms.
Seasonal allergies can develop at any age, but usually start by the age of 10 and peak in the 20’s. Symptoms often disappear in later adulthood.
Signs & Symptoms
· Usually come on suddenly
· Sneezing
· Itchy nose
· Itchy throat
· Itchy/watery eyes
· Nasal congestion
· Clear, runny nose
· Coughing
· Wheezing (could be weather-induced asthma)
· Among others
If your child requires medications to help relieve allergy symptoms, consider giving them their medications prior to coming to school. If your child requires medications during school hours, you may visit https://www.pisd.edu/Page/1698 to view the Medication Policies and Procedures. You may also find the Medication Authorization Form that needs to be filled out for each medication to be administered at school by visiting https://www.pisd.edu/cms/lib/TX02215173/Centricity/Domain/233/Med%20Auth%20Eng2019A.pdf. Please be aware that all medications must be supplied by the parent. In addition, “Medications must be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and appear in the United States Pharmacopeia.”

We'd love for you to come volunteer this year!
Don't forget to Update Your Child's Information in Parent Portal
- Log onto PISD's parent portal at: http://parent.mypisd.net
- If you have never accessed the parent portal, you will need to set up a new account.
- Click on "New Registration" and set up and account using your student's ID number (this is the same number your child uses in the cafeteria) and your email address. (If you do not have an email address the easiest way to set one up is through a free service like Yahoo or gmail).
- Once you have registered and logged into parent portal, you will see tabs for each of your children.
- Click on each child's name and follow the directions for completing all of the registration information for the 2018-19 school year below.
You will need to complete the following information for each child you have enrolled in school:
- Emergency information (have current, accurate emergency phone contacts).
- Be sure to fill out health information completely. In the event of an emergency, it is very important that we have accurate information.
- Sign the Truancy Warning Letter for 2018-19.
- Sign the Student Policy Guide.
- Sign the Student Information Release Form indicating your preferences and consents.
Remember your ID
This is true for volunteering, lunch visits, attending Good Morning Carlisle on Fridays ~ anytime you are going past the front office. Thank you for your cooperation.
